With a population of 523,911 Brampton is the ninth largest city in Canada and the third largest in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Brampton is the second fastest growing city in Canada, averaging growth of 4.2 per cent per year (or 18,000 new residents per year).

Adjacent to Canada’s largest airport Toronto Pearson International, Brampton is home to the largest intermodal railway terminal in Canada and has immediate access to an extensive network of trans-continental highways. At the centre of Canada’s major transportation corridors and located near the U.S. border, Brampton is within a day’s drive of 158 million consumers. Brampton has a successful, diversified economy and is home to more than 8,000 businesses. Seventy two per cent of Brampton’s economic base is comprised of service-producing companies and 28 per cent is comprised of goods-producing companies.

At 34.7 years, Brampton has the lowest median age among Canada’s largest

Food and Beverage

Brampton is part of the Ontario Food Cluster, the second largest food processing cluster in North America and the largest in Canada. Brampton’s thriving food and beverage sector encompasses a diverse range of operations and businesses. The sector represents about 5 per cent of all employment in Brampton with a combined total of 7,700 employees.

Life Sciences

The GTA is home to over 40 per cent of Canada’s life sciences industry, making Brampton a prime location for biotechnology firms, pharmaceutical companies, and research and development. As part of the GTA, Brampton is part of the largest pharmaceutical and biotechnology cluster in Canada.

Information And Communications Technology (ICT)

The GTA is North America’s third-largest technology cluster after Silicon Valley and New York, employing more than 148,000 people in the GTA. Brampton has 250 businesses in the ICT sector, which together employ over 7,000 information technology professionals. Brampton serves as a major hub for industry leaders such as Rogers Communications, IT Weapons, and Open Storage Solutions.

Advanced Manufacturing

Over 30 per cent of Brampton’s economic output is generated by this sector. Some of the more recognizable manufacturers in Canada call Brampton home including, Chrysler Canada, MDA and Massiv Die-Form.

Retail Administration And Logistics

Brampton’s retail and administration sector has experienced an astounding 75 per cent increase in employment over the past ten years, and projections are that it will continue to grow. The sector represents 31 per cent of all employment in Brampton, with a combined total approaching 48,000 employees.
