did you really think you knew everyone at Saint Richard’s?If not, find these people an introduce yourself. After all, maturing in Christ is about the whole body not a part or two.

From the rectorGettinG to know the people oF Saint richard’S

meet the Krech family...A life-long Episcopalian, Nancy (Bell) Krech spent her “Wonder Years” in upstate New York in the so-called Southern Tier near Binghamton. After graduating in 1978 with a Physical Therapy degree from Russell Sage College in Troy NY, she began her career back in Binghamton at a local hospital.

Concurrently, Jeff Krech spent his “Wonder Years” in the great little hockey/stockyard suburb of South St. Paul MN. Jeff headed off to the University of Minnesota where he finished in early 1980 with a Mechanical Engineering degree and accepted a position with IBM in Austin. But…first…there was that temporary assignment in Endicott NY, located just a few miles West of Binghamton.

A chance meeting while camping with mutual friends brought Jeff and Nancy together. They were married in 1984, making their home in North Austin and continuing their careers. They enjoyed traveling, volleyball, the local music scene and hanging with their Austin friends.

Their only child Ben was born in late 1993. The 20 years since have been a blessed blur of child rearing, family based vacations, Boy Scouts, baseball, marching band, etc. Ben just completed his second year at UT Austin’s McCombs School of Business and is on his way to find out what his future will be. He made it to Eagle Scout rank and enjoyed completing his Eagle project for Saint Richard’s to install the Memorial Garden cross lighting and the bench paths near the front of the church.

Nancy is a Physical Therapist for Austin Home Health on a part time basis. Jeff works with a small, dedicated team at EOS Engineering Inc., working as Project Manager. It’s a nice gig working with a handful of guys Jeff started with 30 years ago at IBM.

The Krechs began their life at St Richard’s in 1998. They have come to deeply appreciate Saint Richard’s inclusive, welcoming community and its various ministries. They serve the church community together as members of the Saint Richard’s Gardening Team and in support of the Pumpkin Patch. Nancy has taught Sunday School for over 10 years. Jeff continues his role as “Chief Weed Whacker ” and Ben serves as an occasional lawn mower. They look forward to the future here at Saint Richard’s and hope to serve for many years to come!

Family, friends and all you new faces!

It is good to be home! During our time away at Kanuga I was able to take some

continuing education time and attend the annual Renewal Conference. I was also able

to serve the wider church as a chaplain during Kanuga’s first guest period.

Set in the mountains of western North Carolina, Kanuga is a real gift to the whole body

of Christ. Your financial support of them is certainly a way to make your rector smile at

Christmastime or on my birthday.

During my time as their chaplain I led a Bible study called Tears in Heaven: What all our

sad songs say about God and us. Now that I’ve run through this fresh material at least

once, I’d very much like to offer this short course to you.

Let’s face it, there are some songs that make us cry like a baby. Whether it’s Al Green’s

“For the Good Times,” “The Lonely Sea” by the Beach Boys, Sarah MacLachlan’s “When She

Loved Me” or “Everybody Hurts” by R.E.M. (Okay, maybe not R.E.M.) The Bible is also full

of some real tearjerkers which we call laments; and there are even more songs in Holy

Scripture that feel like “Martha” by Tom Waits.

Explore some sad songs with me on Sundays, July 27, August 3, August 10. Certainly,

don’t hesitate to bring your own. With these beautiful songs in our ears, we will

rediscover the relevance of human suffering and God’s plan of salvation.

Glad to be home!

Ever yours,

The Rev. F. Stuart Shelby, Rector

We’re on the road, July 26thThe time has come. We’ve said our “See You Later”. Our departure is nigh. Your

Saint Richard’s Youth Ministry Team is headed to South Dakota. We will be on the road North after 6:00 AM on July 26th. Don’t hesitate to see us off if you happen to be awake at that early hour. We would love a wave and a pat on the back. A coffee may be nice.

But seriously, thank you for your prayers and your snacks and your thoughts and your support. We wouldn’t be able to make this trip without the good people of Saint Richard’s and our families and friends. We cannot wait to bring you news and pictures from our God-sightings along the way, and some state line “selfies” for good measure.

Please continue to pray for us by name and pray for the people of Martin and Bennett County, South Dakota.

O God, our heavenly Father, whose glory fills the whole creation, and whose presence we find wherever we go. Preserve those who travel, in particular:

PUMPKINS 2014It is time to start thinking about Pumpkins!

We are known as Round Rock’s Pumpkin Church. The funds raised allowed us to distribute over $20,000 to local ministries and global ministries. The rest of the profits go to funding some of the great programs here at Saint Richard’s. We also

throw a great party, open to the public, to say thank you to Round Rock for the support they give to us year in and year out. In 2014 we are looking to provide $23,000 for local and global ministries and funding inspirational ministry at Saint Richard’s. We also intend to throw an even bigger party to say thanks to the people of Round Rock.

The Pumpkin Patch is a success because of everyone’s inspiring efforts and dedication, and we will need help in all areas. No matter what your talents are, they’re needed and can be used at the Pumpkin Patch. The Pumpkin Patch Committee has openings.

If you feel the nudge to join, please contact:

Save the Date for Sunday School!

Sunday School Classes resume on September 7th at 9:15am for all ages. We hope to see you back for Christian Formation for you and your children for the upcoming 2014-2015 school year.

We are always looking for additional team-members on our Family Ministry Education team! If you want to expand your mind with God’s Word, if you want to figure out what kind of fun we’re up to on Sunday Mornings, or if you just miss being a leader for our young’uns, we would love to have you. You will learn more than you ever thought you could about God’s Word when you get to teach it to His children. If you enjoyed your time at Camp SuperKid as a volunteer, we’re convinced you’ll be blessed as a teacher on Sunday Mornings for one of our small groups.

Please call Heather or email her about opportunities to serve in our Christian Formation for Kids, whether that be in class, in Awesome Worship, or as a support team member.

You can do it! No experience is necessary!

Are You Called to be a Daughter of the King? The Order of the Daughters of the King® (DOK) is a spiritual sisterhood

of women dedicated to a life of Prayer, Service and Evangelism. We have made a commitment to Jesus as our Savior, and we follow Him as Lord of our lives.

The Saint Richard’s chapter of the DOK seeks those women who want to experience their Christianity in a loving, supportive and lifelong relationship with Christ and with each other.

For more information go to http://www.doknational.com/ or call: Margaret Holloway 512.244.2929, or

Earma Underwood 512.925.8674

In addition, Margaret and Erma would like to hear from those within the DOK community who will lead our chapter through the next year of exciting growth. If you are a member of DOK and have always wanted to help Saint Richard’s as an officer of our sisterhood, call today.

It is about more than farming...it is about thriving! The simple truth is that we take for granted the most basic things in our lives. Here in the USA farmers farm and we get to eat the fruit of their labors. Yet, the reality for many in the world farmers do not have the ability to grow more than what they supply to their own families and even that is often not enough.

The Ministry, Tracts for Tanzania, helps to change that dynamic by supplying machinery to get more crops in the ground faster. Saint Richard’s Episcopal church is one of those helping in this crucial effort to stave off hunger in the third world

For more information on how you can help, call the church office.

Starting point for New MembersYou are invited to Saint Richard’s Starting Point on Sunday, August 17, 2014 immediately following the 10:30 service. Come for lite fare & great conversation. Seeking membership at Saint Richard’s, or any other church, is a very important step. Either you are looking for a church home, or you have recently decided to put your roots down here at Saint Richard’s. It is our goal to support your understanding of God’s voice in your life, as well as celebrate your connection to Saint Richard’s.

Saint Richard’s Starting Point is the next step to take. Call it our new members class. We just want to help you discover your membership at Saint Richard’s. Our conversations at Saint Richard’s Starting Point will offer you an inside look into who we are and what we believe, as well as an opportunity to ask any questions you might have. It is also a requirement for membership at Saint Richard’s.

When: Sunday at Noon

Where: The Narthex

Lite fare and childcare is provided. Please let us know how many to prepare for that afternoon.

The grace of God does not play it safe. It is imprudent, risky, foolish. It cannot be contained by the walls we build and masks we wear. It moves beyond deserving, pushing the envelope of forgiveness and dispersing the shadows of shame and guilt. God, “whose property it is always to have mercy”, does not flinch from reality–not from our hopes and dreams, our hurts and disappointments, our proudest moments or most embarrassing failures.

This October, at St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church in Houston, TX, we invite you to explore “The Risk of Grace” with us, how the Gospel fearlessly addresses the control freak in us all. Our keynote speaker will be preacher and author Tullian Tchividjian. He will be joined by a host of Mockingbird contributors, including David Zahl, Sarah Condon, Aaron Zimmerman, and RJ Heijmen. The Rev. David Browder will serve as the conference chaplain. We’ve even enlisted one of our favorite Texas singer-songwriters, Slaid Cleaves, to play a concert for us

Call the Saint Richard’s office to join our group attending this conference.

“Grace works without requiring anything on our part. It’s not expensive. It’s not even cheap. It’s free.” – Robert Capon
