Act of Spiritual Communion:
My Jesus, I believe that You are
present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire
to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You
sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself
wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You.
Amen.

Dear Parishioners and Friends, As you might imagine, due to the craziness and
uncertainty of life in the a ermath of the coronavirus epidemic, we are will not be scheduling the Camellia City Eucharis c Procession this year for the feast of Corpus Chris ,
which falls on Sunday, June 14. That is a loss in a certain way, although as the world returns to normal, we will return to that event next year and beyond. I am happy to announce to you, however, something I am planning to do around our own St. Luke Parish on that day and to invite you to joyfully par cipate.
Beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 14, we will travel with the Blessed Sacrament in a monstrance to honor Jesus on the Feast of Corpus Chris through our parish surroundings. I invite you and your neighbors to come out all along Cross Gates Boulevard and return to the parish. We will follow all the regular traffic signs and lights so there will be no “procession” per se, and we will follow all the safety guidelines set in place by the city and state. If you want to come out with your family, friends, and neighbors to pray for a while, we can bring Christ to bless you! We plan to make the full loop of Cross Gates star ng at the church, going north across Military Road, then all the way through the subdivision un l we cross Military again to enter the Willow Wood subdivision from the south side, and loop back across Gause Boulevard to St. Luke again. To be fair to the people on the other side of those streets, we will do the trip again - but in reverse - so that Christ can bless both sides of the street! I hope you’ll come out to join us for that. All our neighbors and friends should be able to safely space and maintain distance along the front yards of their homes. I believe that it will be a beau ful journey to the honor of Christ. It surely is a way - as many parishes around our country have demonstrated - to honor Christ for his protec ng and healing grace that has helped us through the coronavirus epidemic.
I’m very grateful to those of you who have over the last two months spent me in adora on of the Blessed Sacrament when we had it in the FLC, and now that it has returned to our Adora on Chapel. I firmly believe that our parish and the larger Slidell community was spared the severest wrath of the epidemic because good people like you made the conscious decision to con nue honoring the Lord and praying for the safety and health of others. If you haven’t had a chance yet to revisit our Adora on Chapel, I highly encourage you to do so. We have reposi oned it so as to make it roomier and more accommoda ng, and to allow the Lord to be visible from the outside of the Chapel! In the coming weeks, we will begin posi oning shade for those of you who would like to visit. Finally, I hope you’ll join Father David and me in welcoming Deacon Peter Truong Pham to St. Luke for his summer diaconate assignment. Deacon Peter was ordained on May 16th and will be with us through October. If you would be interested in being a member of Deacon Peter’s lay support team, please contact me or him as he moves in to St. Luke. It’s a very important work that you as laity can do to help support the ministry of those preparing for priesthood through their transi onal diaconate. There is a very nice interview with Deacon Peter further in this week’s bulle n.
Yours in Christ,

D O N ’ T F A L L V I C T I M T O A S C A M A R T I S T ! Have you received text messages, emails, or Facebook messages that look as if they are from someone claiming to be Father Pat and asking for money or gi cards, or indica ng it’s an emergency? DON'T BE FOOLED! This is a scam text/email. No priest or staff member from the Archdiocese of New Orleans will ever send you a text that looks like this. Report the email to the Federal Trade Commission’s Complaint Assistant which helps the FTC detect pa erns of fraud and abuse.
What does a dispensa on from
Mass mean?
A dispensa on from the diocesan bishop releases Catholics from fulfilling their Sunday obliga on (Mass). Since public Masses are limited in the Archdiocese of New Orleans un l further no ce, this means that if you live in the Archdiocese of New Orleans, the right thing to do is to stay home for your safety and the safety of others. Though there is a sadness for not being able to par cipate at Mass, one should not feel guilty for not going to Mass. You have a free conscience to stay home. In addi on, one who is sick should always be conscien ous and stay home for the protec on of others.
Help Us Help You… and to Con nue to Help
Our Community
Public Masses are limited, but your priests are s ll serving, s ll praying
for you and your family, and s ll seeing other families who are in
deep need right here in our community.
By mailing in your envelope or se ng up your weekly
contribu on online, you will help St. Luke Parish con nue to serve
our community during this difficult me. Please don’t wait!

MEET TRANSITIONAL DEACON PETER TRUONG PHAM Saint Luke is blessed to announce the diaconate internship of Peter Truong Pham, ordained to the Transi onal Diaconate on May 16th. What follows is from his interview in the online version of The Clarion Herald. Visit them at www.clarionherald.org. What has your seminary discernment been like? It has been the greatest joy as well as the greatest struggle. The forma on of seminary is one that someone can just passively go through. I some mes tell friends and family that I have more gray hair now than before entering seminary; however, I take it as a good thing because it is a sign that I have
put effort into my forma on, much more than anything I have ever done before. How challenging have the last two months been since the seminary went into lockdown? Do you have any thoughts about how the world may have changed? To be honest, I feel a bit out of touch with the outside world by this point, not having set foot off of campus for a couple months. I miss not seeing friends and family, but my brothers and I are fervently praying each day that the church’s faithful would weather this storm and come out stronger. As seminarians, especially with the current circumstances, the one greatest gi s we can offer to the church is our prayer. It has been very heartening to see seminarians at various hours of the day (and night) in front of the Blessed Sacrament. Even when individual seminarians may be experiencing personal struggles with the current situa on (irregular academic schedules, constant reports about the virus, mee ngs concerning schedule changes, familial concerns, etc.), Notre Dame Seminary is s ll striving to maintain the integrity of an apostolic community. What are you most looking forward to in your ministry as a deacon, knowing there s ll may be some restric ons on the size of the parish congrega on for weeks or months? I look forward to being able to exercise the office of deacon as enabled and entrusted by the church (giving blessings, assis ng at the altar, preaching, teaching, etc.). What this entails, I entrust to the Lord. It’s probable that my first homily will be to a virtual congrega on. I may need to take extra precau ons when ministering to the sick. Maybe I can minister to families only from the front steps of their homes. However, this is priesthood. Whatever the condi ons happen to be in the se ng of ministry, I pray to be able to stay faithful to the voca on that has been given to me.

Congratulations, DEACON Andrew Sanchez! Last weekend, we had the incredible honor of sharing Deacon Andrew Sanchez's first Sunday Mass with our parishioners - but most importantly, we were able to honor God in the beau ful Sanchez Family who are members of our parish family. Deacon Andrew will do his diaconate internship at St. Catherine of Siena parish in Metairie.
Voca ons are more than one man becoming a deacon or a priest - it's also the glory of God's love manifest in a family. The families who have sons who are priests or deacons are families just like ours. They pray for their sons and hope that they will be part of a great family of joy and life. These wonderful men become fathers and brothers and sons to a greater Chris an family. Thank you, Mr. and Mrs. Sanchez! And God be praised for you, Deacon Andrew. We're all so proud of you!

Ursuline counselor offers ps to soothe children during coronavirus pandemic excerpted from the Clarion Herald By Tracy Buccino, High School counselor at Ursuline Academy MARCH 17 • Listen to and validate your children’s concerns. If your child tells you
they have heard scary things about the coronavirus, avoid automatically dismissing their fears.
• Provide your children with information about the virus but keep it
simple, age-appropriate and fact-based... You may wish to tell them that most kids and most people in general aren’t getting very sick and that only a small group has had serious problems. Follow that up with assurances that if they or someone they love gets sick, there are people who will help them.
• Manage/monitor your children’s access to media coverage and
social media and be aware of the impact it may be having on their emotional state.
• Try to manage your own anxiety. .. calmly let them know about your concerns, then brainstorm together ways that the whole family can cope with this stressful situation.

THE GOOD SAMARITAN MINISTRY HAS REOPENED WITH SOME LIMITATIONS. We are so glad to be back to serving our community. Our first priority is your safety and ours while the virus is s ll prevalent. So, we have some new procedure that MUST be followed. 1.) Drive up for FOOD, DIAPERS, or FORMULA will be done by comple ng paperwork outside in your car, slipping that paperwork through our mail slot to have your request validated and approved aid given by u lizing our enclosed alcove. You will not be allowed into the office for any reason, including the need to use a restroom. Please have your own pen and ability to write on a hard surface handy. 2.) Financial aid/SNAP requests will s ll need a phone interview to verify your eligibility for an appointment. If eligible, we will email, mail or pre-package required paperwork to be picked up through our mail slot. 3.) We will require proof of s mulus and unemployment benefits in addi on to more rou ne valida ons of ID, other income sources, bills, and bank statements. Once all paperwork is received and validated, an appointment will be made for a phone interview with a counselor to determine aid or apply for SNAP. We want nothing more than to pray with you, give spiritual hugs and provide comfort in these troubling
mes. That day is on the horizon, but un l then, to provide aid, we must first be safe. Thank you for understanding. We are in urgent need of: canned chicken (7-12 oz can), spaghe sauce (24 oz can), cookies (36 ct), pancake mix (1 lb box), pancake syrup (20 oz), deodorant (1.5 oz), shampoo (12 oz), and we also need: canned beans, mixed fruit, jelly, tuna, peanut bu er, dry beans, rice meals, mashed potatoes, rice.
