2006 Iridium I 8200 A Novel Ferrimagnetic Irido-Cuprate: IrSr 2 GdCu 2 O 8 . — The title compound is prepared from SrCO3, CuO, Gd2O3, and IrO2 under high temperature, high-pressure conditions (1393 K, 60 kbar, Belt-type apparatus). The structure of IrSr2GdCu2O8 is de- termined by Rietveld refinement of powder XRD data. The compound crystallizes in the tetragonal space group P4/mmm and is isostructural with the corresponding Ru-1212 phase. A ferrimagnetic Ir IV —Gd III spin ordering is observed below 15 K.
