A Note from Ted

I founded Savannah Bee Company out of my passion for beekeeping and honey. That passion carries through every product I sell.

After more than 30 years of working with bees, I’m confident my company offers some of the world’s finest honey and honeybee-inspired body care products available. We carefully bottle the purest honeys.

Our Everyday Honey line instructs customers how to use each particular honey - Honey for Grill, Honey for Tea, and Honey for Cheese. All of our honeys are hand-harvested at the peak of the blooming season to ensure purity. All are KSA Kosher certified and all are 100% pure honey. We make decisions about sourcing honey based on purity rather than on profit. Our honey is the best you’ll ever taste.

Our body care products are all-natural, use organic ingredients and work as well or better than those on the market that are loaded with chemicals. The products feel great on your skin and are good for your body – inside and out. There is no tradeoff between our natural products and how well they feel and work.

I hope our customers enjoy using our products as much as we enjoy making them! Bees live in a manner that only contributes positively to the world around them. I see honeybees as role models for living in harmony with our environment and each other.

Savannah Bee Company Overview

Ted was 13 when he met Roy Hightower, a beekeeper looking to place beehives on the Dennard family’s 100-acre forest retreat near Brunswick, GA. At first, thousands of bees buzzing around Ted’s head caused him to panic, but then old Roy twirled a frame of honeycomb in front of young Ted’s eyes. The sunlight beamed through the honeycomb like stained glass. Roy cautioned, “Son, these bees can become a way of life.”

Ted kept bees throughout high school and while in college at Sewanee. During Ted’s years in the Peace Corps, he spent his time in Jamaica teaching beekeeping to more than 100 beekeepers. During those years and when he returned home to Georgia, Ted was constantly in the beehives and gave away all the honey he harvested.

A friend soon opened a new store in downtown Savannah and convinced him to bottle and sell his honey on her shelves. Soon, more stores called wanting to sell Ted’s honey, including Dean & DeLuca. The popularity of Savannah Bee products became so overwhelming that Ted made the leap from working out of his kitchen to officially starting a company in 2002.

In the beginning, Savannah Bee Company was built upon relationships with small boutiques. In 2003, Ted made his first visit to the Fancy Food Show where Williams-Sonoma, Neiman Marcus, Crate & Barrel and others discovered Ted’s Savannah Bee honey.

Savannah Bee opened its flagship store in downtown Savannah in October 2008. Savannah Bee continues to wholesale honey and honeybee-inspired body care products to thousands of stores around the nation, open additional retail stores, feature a thriving web business, and support a flourishing not-for-profit called the Bee Cause Project.

Ted and Savannah Bee Company have racked up a number of accolades. In 2007, Ted was named the Georgia Small Business Person of the Year. In 2008, Savannah Bee Company received a Gallo Family

Ted Dennard founded the Savannah Bee Company in 2002 after a longtime passion with honey and bees.


Vineyards Gold Medal Award for Best Condiment. Savannah Bee Company has been a member of the Inc. 500/5000 List since 2009. CNN featured Savannah Bee as a “Small Business Success Story” in 2010. 2011 brought a Sofi Award Silver Finalist nomination for “Outstanding Classic.” Our website has been honored with the 2014 Google’s eCity Award for Georgia. In 2015, Ted received the Small Business Rock Star Award from the Georgia Department of Economic Development. Our Royal Jelly Body Butter was awarded Best New Natural Beauty and Spa Product at the 2015 Natural and Organic Products Europe in London and a Best of the East Press Award at the 2015 Natural Products Expo East.

Staying true to Savannah Bee’s mission, Ted uses his expanded reach to educate more people about the wonders of the honeybee. He regularly speaks with various organizations and garden clubs, and he loves teaching kids (and adults!) about honeybees. Ted’s lifelong passion for honeybees is apparent in his company, the specialty honey and the luxurious, beehive-based body care products he produces. Ted’s hope is that Savannah Bee Company emulates a beehive, where his business benefits everything and everyone.

Premium Single-Varietal Honey

TupeloTupelo is the queen of the honey world and the “gold standard” by which all others are measured. Harvested each April along remote rivers in southeastern Georgia and western Florida, it is one of the rarest and most valuable honeys in the world. Tupelo has a subtle buttery texture that melts on your tongue and fills your mouth with a vanishing sweetness.

Orange BlossomMade in Florida in the early spring when the citrus trees are in bloom, this honey is characterized by its candy-sweet, rich, citrus flavor followed by hints of toffee and almonds.

SourwoodThis distinctive, award-winning honey has an earthy, complex gingerbread flavor profile with subtle maple and spice. Produced in the southern Appalachian Mountains, it can only be produced in small batches. Sourwood has a lavender/amber tint and has garnered multiple blue ribbons at the World Honey Show.

WildflowerOur Wildflower Honey from coastal Georgia has a mild and subtle flavor that is dependent upon the season, weather, and flowering plants of the area. This honey is the perfect all-purpose honey and is great for sweetening beverages, glazing over veggies on the grill, or making desserts.

Tupelo Honey Gold ReserveThis limited edition special release Tupelo Honey was harvested with pristine environmental conditions, honeybee health and nectar flow. The 1936 Letter Press label is hand printed, numbered, and signed by our favorite beekeeper, Ted! The top seal is pure Tupelo beeswax from the same batch.

Sourwood Gold ReserveOur Sourwood Honey Gold Reserve is absolutely the finest quality Sourwood Honey we have seen in over a decade! Your taste buds will be met with an orchestra of flavors ranging from maple spice to caramel to gingerbread. There is only a limited amount of this one-of-a-kind honey from the upper heights of the Southern Appalachians.


International Honey | Premium Single-Varietal Honey

RosemarySavannah Bee Rosemary Honey is one of our most intricate and complex honey varieties. With native origins in Spain, Rosmarinus officinalis grows freely and blooms for an unusually long period of time. Its fresh, woodsy aroma and surprisingly herbaceous taste give way to a delicately soft sweetness. Pair this premium honey with robust dishes like chicken, shrimp, pork and lamb for a noticeably herbal flavor and distinct sweetness.

LavenderLavender Honey is among the most prized varietals of honey. We source our wild Lavender Honey from the remote mountains of southern Spain, where the bees harvest nectar from the most beautiful Lavandula stoechas luisieri every year during late spring and early summer. This premium international honey has a faint, floral aroma, and a subtle fruity finish that is more delicate than other monofloral varietals. Its light color, slightly purple hue, and gentle flavor notes make it particularly complementary in mild tea and as a sugar substitute in baking.

AcaciaAn American transplant to Europe in the 1600s, this tree has made dense stands, allowing bees to make a pure, monofloral honey. Its delicate white blooms create a mild taste the Italians say has “a hint of vanilla.” Acacia honey is award-winning and highly prized throughout the world.

Bee Cause Honey


Bee Cause HoneyTed founded the Bee Cause Project in 2013 to inspire understanding, appreciation and protection of the noble honeybee. The goal of this non-profit organization is to educate students, teachers and parents by installing glass education hives in schools as well as creating a honeybee focused curriculum. The Bee Cause Project aims to install 1,000 education hives nationwide.

Savannah Bee Soy Lotion Candles

Each 11oz jar and embossed chrome lid is housed in a signature box, with a hand-illustrated matchbook nesting drawer. The interior pattern of the matchbook drawer is designed by SCAD alum and Savannah Bee in-house graphic designer and illustrator Rachel Ackley. All five of our candles double as rich soy lotion when heated and, because they’re made with only the highest quality beeswax and soy wax, they feel as great as they smell!

Tupelo Blossom: This fragrant candle is redolent with floral notes of jasmine, lavender and rose. Hints of coconut and sweet vanilla create a warm finish.

Southern Evening: Top notes of verbena and juniper berry fade into comforting hints amber and tobacco, creating a woodsy perfume.
