A Note From Pastor Benkendorf………….. Who needs Santa, anyway? That’s what we (Concordia’s 5th & 6th Graders) decided as we were talking in

Religion last week.

One of the kids asked me if it was okay to give presents and such during Christmas since Christmas is

really supposed to be a celebration of the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I thought this was an awe-

some question and we took the time to discuss it. Bottom line of our discussion was this: It is a celebration of Je-

sus birthday, and as long as we remember that and do all of our celebrating with Him in mind, we are doing fine.

But then I told them if we make it all about Santa and the presents, we are focusing on the wrong thing. And that’s how

the picture came to be. I said “Wouldn’t it be neat if instead of lining up to get a picture taken with Santa, people lined up to get

their picture taken with the Baby Je-

sus.”

And right outside our window

a nativity was set up. So the kids decid-

ed that this Christmas they would get

their picture taken with the Baby Jesus.

Who needs Santa? We have the Baby

Jesus. We have God in the flesh come

to take our sins away! It doesn’t get

any better than that. Who needs Santa,

anyway? We have the Savior of the

world in the Baby Jesus.

We pray you have a wonderful

Christmas as you celebrate the birth of

the Savior, Christ the Lord!

Hymn of the Week: LSB 404 “Jesus, Once with Sinners Numbered”

Jesus, once with sinners numbered,

Had no blemish of His own;

In the waters of the Jordan

His true worth and work were shown:

Heaven opened and the Spirit

There descended like a dove,

As the Father’s voice resounded,

“Hear My Son, the One I love.”
