SOUTH DAKOTA 4-H VOLUNTEER ORIENATION COURSE REQUIREMENT - NEW Star ng November 1, any new volunteers will need to complete the SD 4‐H Volunteer Orienta on Course. The course is through Training House (traininghouse.sdstate.edu), self‐guided, broken into six required sec ons and one op onal sec on. Each sec on has a video that is 8‐12 minutes long with a short review quiz and evalua on at the end. All three ele‐ments must be completed in order to complete the course. Volunteers will need to self‐enroll. Enrollment instruc ons are a ached. Volunteers should complete this course a er their interview with a local 4‐H profes‐sional and complete in the me wai ng for their background check to be complete. The course can be done all at once or can be broken up as needed. Volunteers will be able to start and go back‐in to access the course. The background check and course must be completed before the State 4‐H office will approve the volunteer in 4H Online and be cleared to begin volunteering. All current volunteers with South Dakota 4‐H are also encouraged to complete the course to further develop their volunteer skills! Informa on is relevant to not just new volunteers but will be helpful for everyone working with our 4‐H youth. While it is not required to complete the course as a current volunteer, I would ask that anyone accessing the course would complete the evalua‐on components, so we know how many par cipated.
For issues accessing the course or ques ons, please contact Jenae, SDSU Extension 4‐H Volunteer Development Field Specialist. [email protected]

Rachel, a Union County 4‐H alumni, is working on a leadership project at SDSU, so she created a Facebook page with videos and other activities about agriculture for families to do at home with their kids during this pandemic. Her goal is to teach kids about agriculture whether they grew up on a farm or not and also to share her passion for agriculture. This would also be a great resource for day cares and teachers. Feel free to like and share to help her spread the word about the important of agriculture!
