MACS Summer Fun at the Palm! By Monette Valdez Summer can never be fun without the heat of the sun. And this year, MACS’ partners at work relieved their stress with the white sand and blue water of the Palm Beach Resort in San Juan, Batangas last 16 (1st Batch) & 23 (2nd Batch) of April ’07. Spicing it up, each batch was divided into several groups namely: Galera (Violet), Dakak (Blue), Subic (Beige) and Boracay (Yellow) to participate in the team building games organized by the committee. As an energy booster, games such as charades, “show me” and “tell me a joke” were carried out inside the bus while traveling from MACS to Palm Beach. At the Palm, after Tomas had his welcome remarks, everyone was eager to finish their morning snacks to prepare for the group cheer. Once done with the mind- cracking composing of an enthusiastic cheer, team members earnestly danced and shook with the beat of their masterpiece. And the never dying cheer that was used by most team was…. “Boom tarat tarat….boom tarat tarat…tararat…tararat…boom! Boom! Boom! All groups had really proved the importance of teamwork during the team building games. Cash prizes were given to all participating teams. Teams are ranked based on their performance on each game. The team who had the most number of wins including the cheering competition was declared as the overall champion. MACS Summer Fun at the Palm!By Monette Valdez

Summer can never be fun without the heat of the sun. And this year, MACS’ partners at work relieved their stress with

the white sand and blue water of the Palm Beach Resort in San Juan, Batangas last 16 (1st Batch) & 23 (2nd Batch) of April ’07.

Once done with the mind-cracking composing of an enthusiastic cheer, team members earnestly danced and shook with the beat of their masterpiece. And the never dying cheer that was used by most team was…. “Boom tarat tarat….boom tarat tarat…tararat…tararat…boom! Boom! Boom!

All groups had really proved the importance of teamwork

during the team building games. Cash prizes were given to all participating teams. Teams are ranked based on their performance on each game. The team who had the most number of wins including the cheering competition was declared as the overall champion. I can almost not believe it! In a few days half of this year, 2007, has already passed. What happened? Where did it go? Well, more than any other year since MACS started its operation back in 1998, this year has been characterized by several “all time highs” in terms of meals sold and number of flight served. In other words, most of us in MACS have been busy these first six months and isn’t it when one is busy, as they say, time flies? To reflect on some of the lighter happenings over the last few months, what comes to my mind were the moments, in April, when we visited the breathtaking scenery of Batangas as we took off for our company summer outing in Palm Springs resort. Indeed a beautiful place that gave us time to relax and enjoy each other’s company outside work. I was happy to see so many of you making new friends, relaxing, having fun and enjoying the day beyond our workplace and departmental boundaries. I believe activities such as the summer outing and other “get-togethers” outside work strengthens us as individual members and benefits team work. On that note the Management Team (JB, Abet, Willy, Arlene and myself) with its new members, Andre, Daisy

and Anne went for a one-day trip to Pagsanjan the first week of June. We had fun and enjoyed and had a chance to get to know each other better with the aim at further improving relationships and cooperation within the Team. I was writing this editorial last 24 June when I woke up at 4am just like 35 other colleagues from MACS, because that was the day we participated in the JAL – run for a cause – event! Again, this was another example of having fun and enjoying outside our work setting, which I am sure had strengthened camaraderie and relationships among fellow team members. It was nice to see so many of you there – thank you for your participation. Proudly I am happy to announce that among the MacroAsia group of companies, MACS had sent the largest number of runners by far. Another feather in the cap for the MACS Team! Indeed our organization is not just about work and deadlines, but also about strengthening the ties that bind us. And thus realizing one of our missions; we have FUN and ENJOY!

Northwest Airlines (NWA) one of the world’s largest airlines signaled its new

beginnings as they celebrated A New Day at NWA: Chapter 11 Emergence Manila Celebration last 01 June 2007 from 0930-1030H at Open Skies Lounge. The momentous event was attended by different NWA partners including MacroAsia Catering Services representatives, Abet, Abner, Archie, Bobby, Willi, Robert, Moises, Rod, and the author. The visitors enjoyed the sumptuous meals and mouth-watering fresh fruits served. Everyone is all smiles as they received their NWA mugs as token of appreciation. It truly is a new day at NWA! Cheers and congratulations to Northwest as the company soared its way to emergence and promises blue skies to its flyers.

The HOFEX Culinary Competition held last 13 – 16 May was a success for CCA.

CCA brought home awards with Silver for Western Cuisine Professional: Red Mullet and Prawns Category by Chef Mike Yap, 2 Bronze Awards for Western Cuisine Professional: Vegetarian Category by Chef Roel Vargas, and for Western Cuisine Professional: Spring Chicken Category by Chef Brando Santos.

With these achievements, we are really proud to be one of CCA’s business partners!

On a side note: The MACS-CCA Chef Development Program marked its first year last 15 May 2006. And with the second batch to run this July till August, truly both institutions have strengthened its partnership.

Summer time is always fun. Not only for those who go out for vacation but also for businesses such as ours. The more

people who travel the more flights we will serve and the more meals we will cater. As of June we had already services a total of 3, 931 flights and a total of 1,403,585 meals. A 19,952 meals difference compared to same month last year. Maybe we can attribute the increase in meals and flights to summer because the second quarter comprises of the summer months, what do you think?

MACS MT: Work Hard, Play HardIt was a beautiful Thursday morning when MACS Management Team drove off to Pagsanjan Laguna. This was meant for the team to spend a day off from the hustle and bustle of the office life and just enjoy each other’s company. Boat and raft riding were the highlights of the day

and a sumptuous lunch of local dishes.

It was a moment of knowing each other, and realizing that at the end of the day, the management team, apart from working hard… knows how to play hard as well!

Here’s how the team described their experience.

JAL Fun Run for a Cause. MACS runners, 35 strong men and women representing all departments, were led by GM Tomas Jämtander. With so much fun, some were a bit surprised to find out how they did well in the ranking.

All proceeds from the well participated event were donated to this year’s beneficiary Kythe, a non profit organization catering to pediatric patients with chronic illnesses.

With the company’s thrust to continually improve its services to its employees,

a new system was used for this year’s Annual Physical & Medical Exam (APME). MACS has gone wireless! A wireless and paperless APME? Yes, no more forms to fill up and sign. Just present your ID and swipe!

What was really beneficial in this new procedure is that by the end of the day you can get all your laboratory results (except for VDRL & stool culture as this requires 3-5 days incubation) so that the next day, the attending physician can evaluate the results and give treatment if necessary.

Another milestone is that this year we were joined by our service providers: Excellent Workers, Fourth Dimension, City Service and Remington Security.

Though there are still areas for improvement in the new system we would like to congratulate everybody for the 98% compliance rating.

Till next year … For a healthier and safer MACS!

“A Healthy worker is a Happy worker!” That’s what the OHS Wellness Programs would like to achieve. Quarterly, MACS OHS launches wellness programs and for the month of May and June an AeroDance Class were held. Aerodance is a unique way to get fit. It throws light traditional aerobics steps with fun steps like hip-hops, jazz and salsa!

All the sways and moves (especially the belly dancing) really offered fun and enjoyment. The sheer pleasure of doing something fun together eases conflicts, tensions and pressures thus promoted not only wellness but camaraderie as well.

So join us in our next wellness program

The candid shots truly showcase our mission… “To have fun and we enjoy”. This is what MACS’ new shuttle service embodies… having fun and enjoying our work.
