What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear!

What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer!

O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear,

all because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.

Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere?

We should never be discouraged; take it to the Lord in prayer.

Can we find a friend so faithful who will all our sorrows share?

Jesus knows our every weakness;

take it to the Lord in prayer.

Are we weak and heavy laden, cumbered with a load of care? Precious Savior, still our refuge;

take it to the Lord in prayer.

Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?

Take it to the Lord in prayer! In his arms he'll take and

shield thee; thou wilt find a solace there.

Psalm 34:3-4UMH #769

L. O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt God’s name together.

P. I sought the Lord, who answered me, and delivered me from all my

fears.

PRAYERS FOR THE PEOPLE

#528 UMH

Nearer, my God, to Thee, nearer to Thee!

E'en though it be a cross that raiseth me

Still all my song shall be

nearer, my God, to Thee,Nearer, my God, to Thee,

nearer to Thee!

Though like the wanderer, the sun gone down,

Darkness be over me, my rest a stone

Yet in my dreams I'd be

nearer, my God, to Thee,Nearer, my God, to Thee,

nearer to Thee!

There let the way appear steps unto heaven

All that Thou sendest me in mercy given

Angels to beckon me

nearer, my God, to Thee,Nearer, my God, to Thee,

nearer to Thee!

Then, with my waking thoughts bright with Thy praise,Out of my stony griefs

Bethel I'll raiseSo by my woes to be

nearer, my God, to Thee,Nearer, my God, to Thee,

nearer to Thee!

Or if on joyful wing, cleaving the sky,

Sun, moon, and stars forgot, upwards I fly,

Still all my song shall be,

nearer, my God, to Thee,Nearer, my God, to Thee,

nearer to Thee!

OLD TESTAMENT:

PSALM 111:1-10

NEW TESTAMENT:

JOHN16:17-28

#530 UMH

"Are ye able," said the Master, "to be crucified with me?"

"Yea," the sturdy dreamers answered,

"to the death we follow thee."

Lord, we are able. Our spirits are thine.

Remold them, make us, like thee, divine.

Thy guiding radiance above us shall be a beacon to God,

to love, and loyalty.

This is my story, this is my song,

Praising my Savior all the day long.

Perfect submission, perfect delight,

Visions of rapture now burst on my sight;

Angels, descending, bring from aboveEchoes of mercy, whispers of love.

This is my story, this is my song,

Praising my Savior all the day long;

This is my story, this is my song,

Praising my Savior all the day long.

Perfect submission, all is at rest,

I in my Savior am happy and blest,

Watching and waiting, looking above,

Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.

This is my story, this is my song,

Praising my Savior all the day long;

This is my story, this is my song,

Praising my Savior all the day long.

Take the name of Jesus with you, child of sorrow and of woe;

it will joy and comfort give you; take it then, where'er you go.

Precious name, O how sweet! Hope of earth and joy of heaven.

Precious name, O how sweet! Hope of earth and joy of heaven.

Take the name of Jesus ever, as a shield from every snare;

if temptations round you gather, breathe that holy name in prayer.

Precious name, O how sweet! Hope of earth and joy of heaven.

Precious name, O how sweet! Hope of earth and joy of heaven.

O the precious name of Jesus! How it thrills our souls with joy, when his loving arms receive us,

and his songs our tongues employ!

Precious name, O how sweet! Hope of earth and joy of heaven.

Precious name, O how sweet! Hope of earth and joy of heaven.

At the name of Jesus bowing, falling prostrate at his feet,

King of kings in heaven we'll crown him,

when our journey is complete.

Precious name, O how sweet! Hope of earth and joy of heaven.

Precious name, O how sweet! Hope of earth and joy of heaven.

Thank God for that!
