The oxygen we find in our atmosphere is made up of two oxygen atoms. Scientists use the symbol O2 to indicate this oxygen compound. O2 makes up approximately 21% of the atmosphere we breathe. Because of its chemical formulation, a single atom of oxygen is unstable. That is, it wants to combine with something else. That is why oxy-gen is almost always found in pairs, in its O2 (diatomic) form, where it is more stable.

What is Ozone?

Ozone is made of three oxygen atoms O3. It is less stable than O2 because it wants to return to the diatomic state by giving up an oxygen atom. The ability of ozone to readily give up an oxygen atom makes it a powerful oxidizing agent. Because of this, ozone is used as a bleaching agent and water purifier.

Is Ozone Safe? Laundering with ozone is safe! The ozone gas is entrained in the water and works in “a contained system”. The Home Care Wash System will shut down in the event there is a malfunction with the ozone generator or if a water leak develops, resulting in a steady red light indication in the viewing window.

The majority of internet information available related to ozone safety is for air purifiers where ozone is released into the surrounding air that you breathe and is not “a contained system”. The Home Care Wash System is recommended for front load washers where the ozone gas is con-tained within the washer.

How does it work with my laundry? Directly - free ozone gas acts as like a detergent itself to break down the chemical bonds of the soiling that is present. Indirectly - dissolved ozone in the water changes the water chemistry and helps loosen soiling from fabrics.

One kind of reaction (direct or indirect) will domi-nate depending on the type and amount of soiling present. Ozone is safe to use on colored fabrics (unlike chlorine bleach).

How the Home Care Wash works

1. Water enters the Home Care Wash System from the cold water supply source when the existing washing machine’s cycle is selected and turned on.

2. A flow switch senses the water movement and turns on the ozone generator.

3. The surrounding air is pulled in to create ozone. 4. The ozone generator creates the gas using an

electric field. 5. The ozone gas is injected into the water stream. 6. The ozone gas gets mixed thoroughly with the

water with the help of the static mixer. 7. The ozone saturated water fills the washing

machine.

The Home Care Wash System is completely automatic, requires no replacement filters

or gas supply and is maintenance free!
