Following are the new factors.

I, didn't do the standards yet, lest you find more errors. Can you check using the factors only? Or do you need the standards to check? If so, can you plug in the standards yourself? Or would you rather I do them?

Lowering the 50K OC to 3:37 dramatically changed the configuration. I left every event through the lOK alone, and only changed the 15K thru 50K.

Now, the factors keep rising only through age 40. At age 45, they hegain to drop at 30K. At 50, the drop begins at 25K; at 85, at 15K; Again, once the drop begins, it does not reverse itself and go back up, so that's consistent.

Because I've done these at different times, there might be a little inconsistency, now, in the 5K/8K in relation to the 15K/20K, but maybe it's okay, or too insignificant to bother about.

Check it over and let me know.

Rex:

I made a typo in the M50 age factors for 1500 through 8K which I sent the other day.

The age 40 factors are all correct. To get the factors, I used a Delta 2 of 14 for each age group for the 1500 through 5K. For the lOK up I used a Delta 2 of 15. For the BK, I used 3/5 of the difference between the 5K and lOK ---or about a Delta 2 of 14.5.

The Delta 1 for the 1500, mile, 3K and 5K is 300 from 30 to 35 and 314 from 35 to 40. It's 300 and 314.5 for the BK. It's 300/315 for lOK. Then it changes, due to various reasons I've discussed with Bev, to wit:

15K - 308/323 20K - 314/329 25K - 320/335 30K - 326/341 40K - 331/346 50K - 336/351

I'm working on new factors for women. They'd be about "10%" above the men's ~ similar to the running/jumping factors.

Unless you want to plug this in.~o your computer and grind something out, I'll retype the men's factors and include the women's factors when I finish.

I didn't want to bother you with this until we finished the other stuff, but take a l~ok at these proposed racewalking factors for men (we were going to use them for the women, too, but, since we're adding about 10% to the women's running factors, we should add the same to these factors).

It doesn't use our 2-4-7-11 formula. li can't even remember what I used. I can figure it out, if you need it, or maybe you can just plug it in and come up with something. Let me know.

Following are two pages of the final proposed factors/standards. I've made the adjustments to the standards that we agreed hpon yesterday.

The factors are consistent, Through age 75, the factors rise with the distance. At age 80, they level off at the 15K, From age 85 up, they rise through the lOK, and then drop off consistently through the 50K.

Thus, the age 80+ walkers get som~ help in the longer races. Grimwade's standard at 75 is 100%, but it looks like he may not walk into his 80s. If he does, I would suspect he would not exceed 100%, even with the lowered factors.

The focal points are circled; there are only four of them, but others are very close, such as the age 50 5K.

As to the women, the OCs are about 11% above the men's through the 5K. Then it dips to 10.8% for the BK and 10.25% for the lOK. I don't like that pattern, but the women '·s lOK WR is just too strong. The only alternatives are to ignore that WR or lower the men's OC from 38:02 to 37:47, which, as you said; doesn't seem right. Perhaps in a few years we"ll find that the women aren't 11% slower than the men in walking, but only 10%. Doubtful, but possible.

Anyway, then the women "s OC ratio to the -men's goes up gradually, from 12% in the 15K to 22% in the 50K. Hopefully, that will give the women some needed help in those longer races. (For the 20K, it's 14.0%; 25K: 15.3%; 30K:l7 .9%; 40K: 19.9%; 50K: 21.9%),

Please look it all over and see if you see any mathematical or typographical errors. Check the factors and see if they look about right.
