Ambassador Philippe J. Lhuillier

presented his Credentials to the King of

Spain (His Majesty, King Felipe VI) at

the Palacio Real de Madrid last June

15. He was accompanied by the

diplomatic officers of the Philippine

Embassy in Madrid (namely, Minister

and Consul General Emmanuel R.

Fernandez; First Secretary and Consul

Gerardo P. Abiog; First Secretary and

Consul Mary Luck S. Hicarte; and Third

Secretary and Vice Consul Ralf G.

Roldan).

In his private audience with the King

after presenting his Letter of Credence,

he conveyed to His Majesty the

Philippines´ desire to deepen its

bilateral relations with Spain on all

fronts (economic, political, cultural and

people-to-people exchanges). He

pointed out, however, that it is on the

economic front that he intends to focus

during his tenure as Ambassador to

Spain. He expressed to him his

intention to elevate the level of our

bilateral trade by enhancing our two

countries´ awareness of their respective

investment/business potentials and

providing as many opportunities as

possible for Spanish and Filipino

businessmen to engage one another.

Dulaang Filipino of De La Salle – College of

Saint Benilde, represented by Mr. Virgilio A.

Castillo, Jr., Head, Office of Culture and Arts,

officially received the award for best

international performance from

Escenamateur on 02 June 2017 in a simple

ceremony at the Philippine Embassy in

Madrid, Spain.

The National Historical Commission of the

Philippines (NHCP) and the Spanish National

Research Council (CSIC) conducted a two-

day conference entitled, “Modernization of the

Philippines in the 19th Century” at the CSICInstitute of History from 1 to 2 June 2017.


Ambassador Philippe J. Lhuillier, was the

Guest of Honor and Keynote Speaker during

the Graduation Ceremony of the second

batch of Madrid graduates of the

Ateneo LSE Program held last 03 June 2017

at Hotel VP el Madronio in Madrid. Batch 41,

composed of forty-four (44) Filipino students,

received their Certificates of Participation and

Attendance from Ambassador Lhuillier and

Atty. Florisa Almodiel, Head of the AteneoLSE Program in the Netherlands.

The National Historical Commission of

the Philippines (NHCP) and Mama Sita

Foundation, through the Philippine

Embassy in Madrid, donated books to

the National Library of Spain (BNE).

Ambassador Philippe Lhuillier presented

the donations to BNE Director Ana

Santos Aramburo.


Spanish actor Andreas Muñoz paid a

courtesy call on Ambassador Philippe

Lhuillier at the Philippine Embassy in

Madrid, in connection with the release of

“Ignacio de Loyola” in Spanish cinemas

on 16 June 2017. The film was made

jointly by Filipino filmmakers and

Spanish actors. The film is a

manifestation of the strong people-to-

people and cultural ties between the

Philippines and Spain as they celebrate

the 70th anniversary of their diplomatic

relations this year.

Ambassador Lhuillier graced the celebration of

the Philippine Independence Day of the

Filipino Community in Barcelona, organized by

the community and the Philippine Honorary

Consulate in Barcelona, headed by Mr. Jordi

Puig Roches, Honorary Consul General.

Ambassador Philippe Lhuillier together with the

officers and staff of the Philippine Embassy in

Madrid, joined around 300 members of the

Filipino Community in a Holy Mass in

celebration of the 119th Anniversary of Philippine

Independence at the Nuestra Señora del

Espino. The mass was celebrated by Rev. Fr.

Mark Angelo Martinez Ramos, SVD.

The program began with a youth-led parade

going to the church. This was followed by a

rondalla performance by members of the

Tahanan Rondalla Group and a dance number

by the Asociación de Mujeres Filipinas.


The Overseas Registration Team conducted

mobile registration at the Tahanan Church during

the Independence Day mass of the Filipino

community.

Ambassador Philippe J. Lhuillier hosted

a diplomatic reception at the Hotel

InterContinental Madrid to

commemorate the 119th Anniversary of

the Proclamation of Philippine

Independence, the 15th Philippines-

Spain Friendship Day and the 70th

Anniversary of the Establishment of

Diplomatic Relations between the

Philippines and Spain.

Around 450 guests from the Spanish

Government, the diplomatic corps, the

business community, international

organizations, the academe, Filipino

associations and the Filipino-Spanish

community attended the event.

H.E. Ambassador Philippe J. Lhuillier met

with the Embassy´s eleven (11) Philippine

Honorary Consular Officers in Spain and

Andorra last 13 June 2017.

Honorary Consular Officers from Andorra la

Vella, Barcelona, Bilbao, Cadiz, Las Palmas

de Gran Canaria, Malaga, Palma de

Mallorca, Sevilla, Santa Cruz de Tenerife,

Valencia and Vigo were all present during

the annual meeting.


Ambassador Philippe J. Lhuillier and the

Knights of Rizal Commander Federico

Sanchez, led a wreath-laying ceremony to

commemorate the 156th birth anniversary

of Dr. Jose Rizal. The event was held at Dr.

Rizal’s monument in Avenida Islas Filipinas

in Madrid.

The ceremony saw the presence of Dr.

Rene Escalante, Chair of the National

Historical Commission of the Philippines,

the officers and members of the Knights of

Rizal-La Solidaridad Chapter, the members

of the Filipino community and the personnel

of the Philippine Embassy in Madrid.

Ambassador Lhuillier, in his message, said,

“This year’s theme for the 119th

Anniversary of Philippine

Independence, Pagbabagong Sama-

samang Balikatin, is a fitting tribute to the

sacrifices made by Dr. Rizal and all of our

heroes, who were themselves agents of

change. It reminds us of our heroes’

collective effort to bring about change and

progress. It reminds us that change is, and

cannot be, brought about by only one

person”.

Ambassador Lhuillier met with Mr. Alfredo Bonet,

Director Internacional de la Cámara de Comercio de

España.

The Ambassador pushed for more cooperation

between the Embassy and the “Camara de Comercio

de España”.

Ambassador Philippe J. Lhuillier headed

the Philippine delegation to the ASEAN

Business Forum which was held last 28

June 2017 at the CEOE Headquarters in

Madrid.

Entitled “Trade and Investment

Opportunities in ASEAN”, the forum was

jointly organized by the ASEAN member

countries present in Madrid and the

Confederacion Española de

Organizaciones Empresariales, on the

occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the

establishment of ASEAN and the 40th

Anniversary of ASEAN-EU Relations.

Private business meetings with interested

companies were separately held at the

CEOE meeting rooms. The Ambassador,

assisted by Minister and Consul General

Emmanuel R. Fernandez, met with at

least five Spanish companies which

expressed their interest to do business in

the Philippines.

graced the opening of the Philippine

exhibit entitled Imágenes de Una

Exposición: Filipinas en el Parque de El

Retiro, en 1887 (Images of An Exhibition:

Philippines at El Retiro Park, 1887) on

29 June 2017 at the Museo Nacional de

Antropología in Madrid, which is part of

the Embassy´s celebration of the 70th

Anniversary of the establishment of

diplomatic relations between the

Philippines and Spain.
