Research/Project Work

Doctorant (Research scholar) 23 November 2009 to 15 February 2013 Guide: Mme. Sandrine Thuillier (HDR)

Worked as research scholar on the topic “Experimental investigation and numerical prediction of rupture in bending of metallic sheets” at LIMATB, Université de Bretagne-Sud, Lorient, France. This research work includes mechanical tests (i.e. tension, shear, bulge and bending) of steel and aluminum alloy sheets up to rupture, use of digital image correlation system (Aramis) for strain measurements, experimental rupture analysis with scanning electron microscope (SEM) and numerical simulation of above mechanical tests up to using elasto-plastic material model with several macroscopic rupture criteria. The finite element code ABAQUS was used with user subroutine USDFLD for simulation. This work was the part of SIMENDO project (reference: ANR-09-MAPR-0010-01), which was financially supported by the French National Agency for Research (ANR). Laboratories LaMCoS and MATEIS of INSA Lyon were the academic partners of the project. Automobile company PSA Peugeot Citroen and ESI group were the industrial partners of the project.

Stagiaire École (Trainee) 15 December 2008 to 25 May 2009 Guides: Pr. Jean-Marc Roelandt & Dr. Sadok Gaied Worked as trainee at ArcelorMittal Company, Montataire, France during my M. Tech project work on the topic “Numerical simulation of laser welding process”. The project was in strong collaboration with the Université de Technologie de Compiégne. The study consisted of two parts: (1) thermal analysis and (2) mechanical analysis; of butt joints and lap joints. The phenomenological model of heat source was used in finite element code SYSWORLD in order to optimize the weld parameters and to predict weld widths of the samples.
