From Father Jim Right after they are back from the Easter Break, our ICS school children, led by the second grade, will “resurrect the Alleluia.” It is a growing school custom here at ICS to bury the Alleluia at the beginning of Lent as a way of capturing the liturgical practice of fasting from Alleluia during this penitential season. As we were planning the school’s Easter Mass, the children were very excited about the Alleluia’s return! I believe it was St. Augustine who referred to Christians as Easter People whose song is Alleluia. That classroom was full of little Easter People the other day. The Lenten Season’s Gospels introduce us to a cast of characters caught up in obstacles to light and love in their path. The Easter Season’s Gospels show us how those same characters received the news of Jesus’ Resurrection and how that news brought light and love into their hearts, their interactions with others and the whole of their lives. They so became Easter People that we read from the Acts of the Apostles they were first named Christians in Antioch because of the way they loved each other! As we engage the Easter Season this year we can rejoice and be glad for the Lenten journey which afforded us insight into our obstacles to living as Alleluia people. As Mary, Peter, Thomas, and the rest of the disciples receive the Risen Lord into their midst, we can better embrace the ways we are living out of our new life in Christ. If you read along in Lent the chapters from “Rediscover Jesus”, I suggest chapter 38 and a good launching point for your Easter Season journey. We gather as a faith community this Easter Sunday in great joy! We gather to worship and give thanks to God for Jesus and his faithfulness in his hour of glory, His passion, death, and Resurrection. We also gather to support each other and especially to celebrate the six new, fully incorporated members of our faith community, Tony Catallozzi, Alexander Easter Flowers: If you would like to make a donation for Easter flowers in memory of a loved one please use the envelope in your envelope packet or put your donation in a regular envelope. Inspirational quote of the week: “For me prayer is a surge of the heart, it is a simple look towards Heaven, it is

a cry of recognition and of love, embracing both trial and joy.” ~ St. Therese of Lisieux

Liturgy

Readings for next week: second Sunday of Easter First Reading: Acts 2:42-47 In the early days of the Church in Jerusalem, the faithful listened intently to the teachings of the apostles. They lived a communal life, sharing all property in common and praying and taking their meals together. Second Reading: 1 Peter 1:3-9 In this first letter from Peter, he speaks to the Christians with great joy and confidence, reminding them that through Christ’s resurrection, they have been given a new birth and are heirs to the kingdom of heaven. Gospel: John 20:19-31 After his resurrection, Jesus appears to his disciples and gives them the power to forgive sins. Thomas, who is absent, sees Christ later and believes in His resurrection after feeling His wounds. Christ admonishes Thomas by saying, “You became a believer because you saw Me. Blessed are they who have not seen and believed.”

Happy Easter! Christ has risen, Halleluiah! On this most glorious day we celebrate Christ’s triumph over death. We are reminded and reassured of the truth that Jesus

revealed to us a truth that provides us with hope. As you spend this day celebrating His return remember to do so with joy in your heart. The glory of His resurrection is that it is for all to share. As Christ tells us, “Do not be afraid,” so this week be filled with the courage and hope that his

resurrection provides and be not afraid to joyfully declare that Christ has risen indeed.
