A Message from the NAASC President Tara L. Buckner, C’87, NAASC President

Greetings Sisters!

October is upon us and we all know what that means…Homecoming! This is the time

when we come together and forget how many years we’ve been gone from school.

We get to campus, we are just happy to see each other and reconnect. I am looking

forward to seeing all of you!

October is also important, because it is the month before we exercise our right to vote!

On September 15th, I reposted a tribute made by Jack and Jill of America,

Incorporated to the Birmingham Four Little Girls killed in 1963. I always make time to reflect on what the

sacrifices of these four young girls on my ability to walk into my polling place and cast a vote. It is

important that we remember their sacrifices as well as others in pursuit of civil rights, and the best way to

do that is to exercise our right to vote.

I encourage each and every Spelman Sister to be sure to be registered to vote in the November election.

I have asked NAASC chapter presidents to be sure to remind the students from their areas to be registered

for elections in their respective states or to be registered in Georgia by October 9th. Finally, be sure to

review the information in this newsletter as it pertains to Homecoming events and deadlines for NAASC

Awards submissions and NAASC Nominations.

Profile of the NAASC Membership Joy Smith, C’88 -Membership Committee Chairperson

The one thing Spelman alumnae have in common is their undying love for Spelman

College. This devotion begins freshman week and it lasts throughout a lifetime. The

membership profile of the NAASC reflects this lifetime devotion to Spelman College

which is the only organization that represents the unique concerns of Spelman

alumnae.

The graphs below provide a snapshot of the membership body for the 2016-2017

Membership year and the 2017-2018 Membership year. It is never too late or too

early to get involved. Go to www.naasc.org to find a local chapter and pay

dues.
