Why does the Queen have a second birthday?

The tradition of the British monarch celebrating two birthdays stem back to 1748,

during the reign of King George II. As the King’s birthday fell in late Autumn,

the weather wasn’t suitable for a large, public celebration in honour

of his birthday.

FROM THE YALLAMBEE VILLAGE RESIDENT’S COMMITTEEThe meeting opened at 2.30pm on Monday May 3rd 2021. Vice President Lorraine Hickey welcomed all.

Not too much business this month.

No correspondence out.

Correspondence was received from the Leadership Team enclosing The Village Budget and attaching copy of the Quarterly Accounts plus information on upcoming activities plus maintenance.

Business arising from the correspondence included a short discussion on the proposed Annual Budget with query in regards to consent for the appointment of Auditor. This query was resolved

The Treasurers report was received.

In General Business Christmas lunch on Wednesday December 15th was discussed. Our Village cafeteria to cater. A letter to Elena Goldfinch and Michelle Croft requesting a meeting on Wednesday June 2nd with Jo and Heath to discuss catering and pricing. Entertainment also to be booked.

Apology My apology to Heath for calling him Trent in the May Minutes.

Several of our residents have complained about the noise from Adcock Park during the netball finals. These are not complaints about the noise of the children. I am sure most of us don’t mind the noise of children having a wonderful time. The noise was from the microphone and speakers. The volume is turned up well over the noise limit and it has been suggested the speakers may be facing toward the Village. Secretary Margaret has written to the Netball Association, spoken to the Secretary and sent a copy to the Council to see what can be done about the problem. The noise was very much subdued on the Finals Day play.

The Royal Spoonbill is one of two Spoonbills found in Australia.

This tall, white plumed bird has a long black bill that tapers to a distinctive wide flat tip that provides a unique opportunity to access the wetlands food resources.

These birds stride through the shallows sweeping their slightly opened bill in broad arcs from side to side, any small fish, crustacean or insect that touches the inside of the broad tip triggers it to shut instantly.

The birds usually form small parties flying in lines or V formation and are silent except when nesting where they give soft, low grunts.

Their usual habitat is shallow wetland and the margins of deeper water of fresh or saline coastal lagoons.

They are common throughout the country except for the most arid parts.

They breed from Oct to March in the SE and any time after flooding rain in the arid interior. Their nest is a large substantial dished platform built of sticks and lined with leaves and vegetation and they have a clutch of 2-3 eggs which incubate for 20-25 days.

This month’s bird is:

THE ROYAL SPOONBILL

Evergreen Bird Life

Secretary has sent card thanking our leadership team, staff members and cafeteria staff who did such a great job looking after and catering for the Mothers’ Day BBQ on May 5. It was really wonderful to see so many of our residents gathered together and our every whim and request was looked after. We were absolutely spoilt.

*****************************************AGM in your diary please. Wednesday July 28th at 10am.**************************************Residents’ having a resolution to submit at the AGM must do so by June 27. A flyer will be delivered with instructions. Nomination forms will be available in July.

I was browsing through an article written by the late Geoff Morris ‘The History of Gosford RSL Leisure Living’. Our long-time Residents must have some wonderful memories of the ‘old days’. The BBQ at the end of the Village on a Saturday became a regular feature but it could get a bit hot. Steve Kane the gardener decided to build a pergola. However as this was an open construction and still got a bit hot the residents decided to throw in a few dollars each and buy some shade cloth. They got rained out a couple of times. As the ‘Chapple’s Bar at the Bowling Club was being demolished they managed to acquire the rusty clip lock roofing, Residents then chipped in to buy some Solar guard paint and held a working bee to paint and restore the clip lock and put the roof on. Sometimes the BBQs went late into the night (seems to me they had a great time).

Enjoy the month of June everyone. Winter is here. Get the warm clothes out (I think we already have).

Check out the full minutes on the board.

A boy asks his father, “Dad, are bugs good to eat?” “That’s disgusting. Don’t talk about things like that over dinner,” the dad replies. After dinner the father asks, “Now, son, what did you want to ask me?” “Oh, nothing,” the boy says. “There was a bug in your soup, but now it’s gone.”

Bob was in trouble. He forgot his wedding anniversary. His wife was really angry. She told him “Tomorrow morning, I expect to find a gift in the driveway that goes from 0 to 200 in 6 seconds AND IT BETTER BE THERE!” The next morning, he got up early and left for work. When his wife woke up, she looked out the window and sure enough there was a box gift-wrapped in the middle of the driveway. Confused, the wife put on her robe and ran out to the driveway, brought the box back in the house. She opened it and found a brand-new bathroom scale. Bob has been missing since Friday.

Ralph is driving home one evening, when he suddenly realizes that it’s his daughter’s birthday and he hasn’t bought her a present. He drives to the mall, runs to the toy store, and says to the shop assistant, “How much is that Barbie in the window?” In a condescending manner, she says, “Which Barbie?” She continues, “We have Barbie Goes to the Gym for $19.95, Barbie Goes to the Ball for $19.95, Barbie Goes Shopping for $19.95, Barbie Goes to the Beach for $19.95, Barbie Goes Nightclubbing for $19.95, and Divorced Barbie for $265.00.” Ralph asks, “Why is the Divorced Barbie $265.00 when all the others are only $19.95?” “That’s obvious,” the saleslady says. “Divorced Barbie comes with Ken’s house, Ken’s car, Ken’s boat, Ken’s furniture...”

A wife comes home late one night and quietly opens the door to her bedroom. From under the blanket, she sees four legs instead of just her husband’s two. She reaches for a baseball bat and starts hitting the blanket as hard as she can. Once she’s done, she goes to the kitchen to have a drink. As she enters, she sees her husband there, reading a magazine. He says, “Hi darling, your parents have come to visit us, so I let them stay in our bedroom. Did you say hello?”

What does a spy do when he’s cold? He goes undercover.

Why don’t mountains catch colds? They wear snow caps.

The Kariong hieroglyphics gallery (also called the ‘Gosford glyphs’) are a strange and controversial human-made feature carved into sandstone, located in a small crevasse lying hidden in the hills between Gosford and Woy Woy. Essentially, they are deeply etched, Egyptian-type engravings. Needless to say, they are unexpected and, in the words of at least one bushwalker, just plain weird. There are many dozens of engravings and most measure about 15cm tall. Who did this and why? Few people can agree on exactly when they were engraved, although most believe they were completed post the Second World War. However, much to the annoyance of local historians, there are some people who continue to believe they are much older than this and proof of alien visitations. In fact, the first official reporting of the site was made by Alan Dash, a local surveyor whose hobby was exploring nearby bush. In 1975, he stumbled upon the hieroglyphic site, and he continued to visit the gallery for the next five years. However, he quickly realised that new engravings were added every time he returned there, suggesting whoever had engraved them was continuing with their work right into the late 1970s. This theory was supported in 1983, when a NPWS rock art conservator visited the site and reported that several of the hieroglyphs were less than twelve months old.Local residents and boy-scout groups have been visiting this isolated spot for many decades, so the hieroglyphs have become a permanent part of our Central Coast folklore. The internet features several websites and blog posts devoted to the subject, and the site has been known to attract New Age groups, some from overseas. There always will be those who believe it is proof that aliens visited earth centuries ago and/or ancient Egyptians were the first non-Aborigines to land in Australia. What do you think?
