ST. AGNES PARISH MISSION STATEMENT Loved and chosen by God, we are the St. Agnes Parish family. Through Baptism we share responsibility for continuing the mission of Jesus. We are called to be a community whose members enable and support the gifts given to each by the Spirit. We are sent to make Christ visible in our world through worship, proclamation of the Word, and service to all God’s people. We, the people of God, in the Catholic Christian community of St. Agnes, in northwest Springfield, Illinois, commit ourselves to seek first the Kingdom of God in our life together.

A message from Fr. Dan The parable of the Prodigal son is a classic in the studies of the depth of God’s forgiveness. The bottom line is that we are all sinners and in need of God’s abundant Mercy. To the extent of our own awareness of our sinfulness we can relate to this scripture. It also solicits ponderances of God Justice. Is it fair to the good son who stayed home and did his father’s will? Good discussion question. In the end, it is up to God to decide whom to forgive and the course of justice that does accompany this forgiveness. MINISTRY TRAINING SCHEDULED We will have training for several of our important Liturgical Ministries in the first full week of October. Eucharis-tic Minister training will be Tuesday, October 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the church (includes the homebound ministry too). Readers will have a training session on Wednesday, October 9 at 6:30 p.m. in the church. Ushers will have training on Thursday, October 10 at 6:30 p.m. in the church. Also, this includes NEW members who would like to serve as a Eucharistic Minister, Reader or Usher. ANNUAL CATHOLIC SERVICES APPEAL Soon each parish family will be receiving a letter from Bishop Paprocki asking for support of our larger diocesan church. The annual appeal assessment for St. Agnes Church this year is $120,554. Each family is asked to prayerfully consider donating 1% of our income to this worthy cause. As the Pastor I will personally donate 1% or $300 and invite each St. Agnes Parish family to prayerfully consider similar support. Thank you for your generosity. Please note the ACSA chart on the Generosity page of this bulletin. SCHOOL VISITS It is with much joy that I have begun classroom visits in our parish school. The 1st and 3rd Wednesdays I visit K-5th grades. The 2nd and 4th Wednesdays I visit the 6-8th grades. I’m learning quite a bit from our students already! HELP WANTED AND GOOD DEEDS: We are reporting in this bulletin about the good deeds parishioners are doing for St. Agnes Parish! If you would like to participate in these good deeds, please contact Kathy Vizral at the Parish Office. PASTOR’S EMAIL ADDRESS My email address is: [email protected] This is the very best way to get in touch with me. Again, please feel free to use this as the primary contact to help guide and support our parish family and me. Any and all gentle recommen-dations and insights are most welcomed. WEEKLY STAFF MEETINGS Each Thursday afternoon for one hour the parish staff gathers to compare notes and work together to move our parish ministries forward in a coordinated and constructive manner. Request for Rosaries
The Haitian Healthcare Mission served by the Hospital Sisters fared pretty well in the earthquake of 2010, but
recent hurricanes have hit the people of Jeremie harder. The workers there say the people need Rosaries in large numbers. Please bring spare Rosaries you may have at home to the blue box in the gathering space to be sent to the patients and families. We will make sure they get to Jeremie through Sr. Mary Immaculate, a HSHS sister who served there for years.
