From a Marianist Community of student brothers open to visitors for Sunday Eucharist, Queen of Apostles Community emerged as a non-territorial parish on August 28, 1973.

Continuing in the tradition of the Marianist Charism, we come together each week as a family of Catholic, Christian believers, to worship our God in the Eucharist with song &

praise and to share in the breaking of the Bread. In so doing, we proclaim our willingness to build a community of love and to be the holy people God calls us to be.

If you are visiting and worshipping with us for the first time, we extend to you our warmest welcome. Our prayer is that your worship experience will be uplifting and Spirit filled.

We hope you will visit us often and worship with us!

(If you’d like more information about us or would like to join our Community, please fill out the form on the back cover and drop it in the collection basket!)

NOTE: If the form on the back is missing, email [email protected] with your name, phone number, address and we’ll contact you about joining us.

Marianist Doxology

May the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit be glorified in all places through the Immaculate Virgin Mary.

QUEEN OF APOSTLES COMMUNITY (QAC)

“THE SPIRIT” & SUNDAY HOMILIES ON LINE: Visit our QAC website at qac-ohio.org. On the main page, you’ll find ‘The Spirit of QAC’ under ‘Our Community.’ ‘Homilies’ are listed under ‘Sunday Bulletin.’

Stewardship & Giving

Feast of the Holy Family: “Wives and husbands, love one another…Children, obey your parents in everything…Fathers, do not provoke your children…” (Colossians 3:18-21). Pope Francis said that families, through their life of prayer and love, become "schools of true human growth." Being credible witnesses of Christian love, especially that of family members, exerts the most positive influence on our children. We are all children of God, let us pray and love each other as God, Our Father, does for us.

Feast of the Holy Family

Sirach 3:2-6, 12-14: This passage is chosen for its observations about familial relationships, the mutual duties of children and parents—appropriate enough for the feast of the Holy Family. There is great poignancy in some of these lines, and harsh reality as well: “Take care of your parents when they are old; even if their minds fail, be considerate of them.” The author clearly knew some of the difficulties of family life.

Colossians 3:12-23: The grateful heart is the one that most spontaneously gives itself away. A thankful person is one of life’s greatest gifts, a joy to be around. God loves us exactly as we are, warts and all. Isn’t that reason enough to live in thankfulness?

Matthew 2:13-15, 19-23: “Out of Egypt I called my son”—Matthew reminds us of Israel’s deliverance from slavery in Egypt, when they were led to freedom by Moses. Jesus is the fulfillment of every prophecy and promise. We, as the new Israel, are to be led out of slavery by Christ, the second Moses. The effects of that deliverance bind us to one another with ties stronger than any blood relationship. Christian notions about “family” include recognition of the solidarity that binds all believers together.

Ministers Taking Eucharist to Those Not With Us

Presider: Let us send these ministers to those who could not be with us.

Response: Receive the Body of Christ for the nourishment of those who are not here with us. Assure our friends of our prayers and blessings throughout the week.

PRAYER OF BELIEF – John Shea

We believe that where people are gathered together in love God is present and good things happen and life is full.

We believe that we are immersed in mystery, that our lives are more than they seem that we belong to each other

and to a universe of great creative energies whose source and destiny is God…… We believe that God is after us,

that God is calling to us from the depth of human life. We believe that God has risked Self and became man in Jesus…

In and with Jesus we believe that each of us is situated in the love of God and the patterns of our life will be the pattern of Jesus - through death to Resurrection.

We believe that the Spirit of Peace is present with us, the Church, as we gather to celebrate our common existence the resurrection of Jesus, and the fidelity of God.

And most deeply we believe that in our struggle to love, we incarnate God in the world. And so aware of mystery and wonder, caught in friendship and laughter,

we become speechless before the joy in our hearts and celebrate the sacredness of life

in the Eucharist. Amen.

FREE & NEARLY FREE: Looking forward into the New Year...I’ve posted the Winter/Spring Concerts & Recitals of the Wright State Music Department. Last year I went to three concerts and I enjoyed them very much. In particular the Wind Symphony, the music selections were very reminiscent of The Grand Canyon Suit. The Sinclair 2019-20 Music and Preforming Arts information is also posted on the boards.

As for Dayton amateur theater, the Dayton Playhouse presents "Man of LaMancha," Jan 17th-Feb 2nd. Email www.daytonplayhouse.com or call 424-8477 for ticket info. I rate Wright State number one and the Dayton Playhouse number two for area amateur theater. Both do a great job. I checked the DaytonPlayhouse.com web sight and they have seats available for all nine performances. I hope to see you there.

FAVORITE QUOTE!: "Health is God’s great gift, and we must spend it entirely for Him. Our eyes should see only for God, our feet walk only for Him, our hands labor for Him alone; in short, our entire body should serve God while we still have the time. Then, when He shall take our health and we shall near our last day, our conscience will not reproach us for having misused it." ~ St. John Bosco

MEDITATION OF THE DAY!: “Darkness is necessary. All life germinates in the dark and we spend fully one half of our lives in that state. Without pervasive darkness there would be no need for light, and still there are places and realities that light cannot illumine. Lightlessness also bears different aspects. It is the impenetrable cloak of mystery that hides the Holy and shades our lives with the nuance of not-knowing. Such darkness can both isolate and integrate us under its shadow. When plunged into blackness, our first instinct is to reach out for one another. Should we turn our headlights off, linger long enough in unknowing, and let our eyes adjust to the dimness, we might discover that most especially in dark times we are not alone.” —from the book Wandering and Welcome: Meditations for Finding Peace by Joseph Grant

NEW YEAR’s HUMOR: A New Year's resolution is something that goes in one year and out the other. New Year's is just a holiday created by calendar companies who don't want you reusing last

year's calendar. My resolution was to read more so I put the subtitles on my TV. My wife still hasn't told me what my New Year's resolutions are. Can't wait to start my New Year’s resolution in 2019! I was going to quit all my bad habits for the New Year, but then I remembered that nobody

likes a quitter.

GOD’S IMPROVEMENT A little girl was sitting on her grandfather’s lap as he read her a bedtime story. From time to time she would take her eyes off the book and reach up to touch his wrinkled cheek. She was alternately stroking her own cheek, then his again. Finally, she spoke up, “Grandpa, did God make you?”

“Yes, sweetheart,” he answered, “God made me a long time ago.

“Grandpa, did God make me too?”

“Yes, indeed, honey,” he said, “God made you just a little while ago.”

Feeling their respective faces again, she observed, “God’s getting better at it, isn’t he?”

A DAY ON THE LINKS Four men were out golfing.

“These hills are getting steeper as the years go by,” one complained.

“These fairways seem to be getting longer too,” said one of the others.

“The sand traps seem to be bigger than I remember them too,” said the third senior.

After hearing enough from his senior buddies, the oldest and the wisest of the four of them at 87 years old, piped up and said, “Just be thankful we’re still on the right side of the grass!”

EXERCISES FOR SENIORS You know how important exercise is, as we grow older. Here are a few suggestions. I start by standing outside behind the house and, with a five-pound potato sack in each hand, extend my arms straight out to my sides and hold them there as long as I can. After a few weeks, I moved up to 10-pound potato sacks, then 50-pound potato sacks and

finally I got to where I could lift a 100-pound potato sack in each hand and hold my arms straight out for more than a full minute!

Next, I started putting a few potatoes IN the sacks, but I would caution you not to overdo it at this level.
