From a Marianist Community of student brothers open to visitors for Sunday Eucharist, Queen of Apostles Community emerged as a non-territorial parish on August 28, 1973.

Continuing in the tradition of the Marianist Charism, we come together each week as a family of Catholic, Christian believers, to worship our God in the Eucharist with song &

praise and to share in the breaking of the Bread. In so doing, we proclaim our willingness to build a community of love and to be the holy people God calls us to be.

If you are visiting and worshipping with us for the first time, we extend to you our warmest welcome. Our prayer is that your worship experience will be uplifting and Spirit filled.

We hope you will visit us often and worship with us!

(If you’d like more information about us or would like to join our Community, please fill out the form on the back cover and drop it in the collection basket!)

NOTE: If the form on the back is missing, email [email protected] with your name, phone number, address and we’ll contact you about joining us.

Marianist Doxology May the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit be glorified in all places

through the Immaculate Virgin Mary.

STEWARDSHIP & GIVING

Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time: “For the gifts and the call of God are irrevocable.” (Romans 11:29). God has a special mission in mind for each of us. God has given us the gifts we need to accomplish that mission. We are called to be good stewards by using those gifts to do the work that God has planned for each of us. If we deny our gifts or fail to use them as God calls us to use them, then some part of God’s work will be left undone.

Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Isaiah 56:1, 6-7: Foreigners who abide by the essentials of the covenant will be welcome on “the holy mountain,” that is, Jerusalem and the temple. Though there are certain restrictions placed on these foreigners, they are clearly part of God’s saving plan. Thus we see the chosen people begin to wrestle with the notion that God offers saving mercy to all.

Romans 11:13-15, 29-32: Paul reasons that the faith of the Gentiles who have accepted Jesus will cause the Jews to turn toward him as well—out of “jealousy.” He presumes that the Gentiles have the Good News preached to them because it was rejected by the Jews. He then speaks of the irony of God’s irrevocable plan: When the condemnation brought on by rejection is great, the mercy that comes with acceptance is even greater.

Matthew 15:21-28: When Jesus says that the food he brings for the house of Israel should not be thrown to the dogs, he uses a word that means “pets” or “puppies,” not ravenous scavengers. The woman gets the point and responds in kind: “Surely you wouldn’t deny the household pet a scrap from the table.” It is a convincing expression of faith arising out of the woman for her ailing daughter. God never refuses such humble love; neither should we.

Ministers Taking Eucharist to Those Not With Us

Presider: Let us send these ministers to those who could not be with us.

Response: Receive the Body of Christ for the nourishment of those who are not here with us. Assure our friends of our prayers and blessings throughout the week.

Profession of Faith (Sr. Joan Chittister)

We believe in God who made us all and whose divinity infuses life with the sacred.

We believe in the multiple revelations of God, alive in every human heart, expressed in every culture, found in all the wisdoms of the world.

We believe in Jesus, the Christ, who leads us to the fullness of humanity, to what we are meant to become.

Through Christ, we become new people, called beyond the consequences of our brokenness, lifted to the fullness of life.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the breath of God on earth, who keeps the Christ vision present to souls yet in darkness, gives life to hearts now blind, infuses energy into

spirits yet weary, isolated, searching and confused.

We believe in God who is life. Amen to courage, to hope, to spirit of truth, to nature, to happiness, to wholeness, to the partnership of women and men in God’s plan, to the Christ who calls us beyond

the boundaries of ourselves, to forgiveness, and to everything that stretches our hearts to the dimensions of God.

In all of this, we can surely believe, as God does. Amen.

Presented by Bespoke Theater, Fri & Sat, Aug 18th, 19th, 25th, 26th (7:00 PM) and Sun, Aug 20th, 27th (3:00 PM) at Carillon Park. Let’s meet Sunday, Aug 20th, at the Carillon Brewery for a picnic/sack lunch or lunch at the Brewery...if we meet at 1:00 PM, we should have enough time for either. See Chuck Bauer. NOTE: Because of a conflict at Carillon Park, the Aug 25th location is moved to the Piett Mac-A-Cheek Castle, West Liberty OH (US 68 - 30 miles north from I-70 then east 1.5 miles on SR 245E). Looking on the internet this is a very interesting place with two post-Civil War (1870s) castle like large homes that are now museums.

TAKING A LOOK AT WHITE PRIVILEGE WITH CATHOLIC SOCIAL ACTION: Join us Saturday, Aug 26th, 9:00-11:30 AM, the Sisters of the Precious Blood, Salem Heights, 4500 Denlinger Road, Dayton. After an April conversation on racism we felt called to continue the discussion by looking at white privilege to learn how it affects our human dignity. We are continuing to deepen our awareness of one another, so that we can better embrace solidarity with each other. The morning gathering will bring together people of diverse backgrounds and will include viewing part of a documentary and sharing personal experiences of white privilege. This event is open to people of all religious traditions. It is not necessary to have attended the April session. Reservation deadline - Wednesday, Aug 23rd, by email ([email protected]) or phone 937-224-3026 (x 5015).
