Created to Praise How Do We Worship?
Pentecost
Song Leaders Bob and Becky Boyd Prelude Music: "The Heart of Worship" Offer by: Boyds Welcome & Announcements - (Theme Slide) leader: PR + PH Opening Hymn Title: "O Worship the King" Number: LSB 804, Stanzas:1,2,6 O worship the King, all-glorious above. O gratefully sing His pow’r and His love; Our shield and defender, the Ancient of Days, Pavilioned in splendor and girded with praise. O tell of His might, O sing of His grace, Whose robe is the light, whose canopy space; His chariots of wrath the deep thunderclouds form, And dark is his path on the wings of the storm. O measureless Might, ineffable Love, While angels delight to hymn Thee above, Thy humbler creation, though feeble their lays, With true adoration shall sing to Thy praise. Invocation: leader: LEADER: In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. PEOPLE: Amen. Confession LSB Pg: 151 LEADER: If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. PEOPLE: But if we confess our sins, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (Silence for reflection on God's Word and for self-examination.) LEADER: Let us then confess our sins to God our Father. PEOPLE: Most merciful God, we confess that we are by nature sinful and unclean. We have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved You with our whole heart; we have not loved our
neighbors as ourselves. We justly deserve Your present and eternal punishment. For the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways to the glory of Your holy name. Amen. Absolution LSB 151: LEADER: Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you all your sins. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit.
PEOPLE: Amen. Sharing the Peace - (Special Slide) Leader: Having confessed our sins and heard God’s forgiveness, let us greet one another in these words, “Peace be with you.” Hymn of Praise LSB155 This is the Feast REFRAIN: This is the feast of victory for our God. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia. Worthy is Christ, the Lamb who was slain, Whose blood set us free to be people of God. (Refrain) Power, riches, wisdom and strength, And honor, blessing, and glory are His. (Refrain) Sing with all the people of God, And join in the hymn of all creation: Blessing, honor, glory, and might Be to God and the Lamb forever. Amen. (Refrain) For the Lamb who was slain has begun His reign. Alleluia. (Refrain) Salutation and Collect of the Day: pg.156 Leader: PH LEADER: The Lord be with you. PEOPLE: And also with you. LEADER: Let us pray: O God, You make the minds of Your faithful to be of one will. Grant that we may love what You have commanded and desire what You promise, that among the many changes of this world our hearts may be fixed where true joys are found;
through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. PEOPLE: Amen. FIRST OLD TESTAMENT TEXT: Psalm 150:3-5 ESV p.526 READER: Jim Gruber - Please Read with Me.... [3] Praise him with trumpet sound; praise him with lute and harp! [4] Praise him with tam-
bourine and dance; praise him with strings and pipe! [5] Praise him with sounding cym-
bals; praise him with loud clashing cymbals! ...This is the Word of the Lord. PEOPLE: Thanks be to God. SECOND OLD TESTAMENT TEXT: 2 Samuel 6:12-16a ESV pp. 258-259 READER: Jim Gruber [12] And it was told King David, "The Lord has blessed the household of Obed-edom and all that belongs to him, because of the ark of God." So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-edom to the city of David with rejoicing. [13] And when those who bore the ark of the Lord had gone six steps, he sacrificed an ox and a fattened animal. [14] And David danced before the Lord with all his might. And David was wear-ing a linen ephod. [15] So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouting and with the sound of the horn. [16] As the ark of the Lord came into the city of David, Michal the daughter of Saul looked out of the window and saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord, ...This is the Word of the Lord. PEOPLE: Thanks be to God. EPISTLE TEXT: 1 Timothy 2:1-8 ESV p. 991
READER: Jim Gruber [1] First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, [2] for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. [3] This is good, and it is pleas-ing in the sight of God our Savior, [4] who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. [5] For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, [6] who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time. [7] For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth. [8] I de-sire then that in every place the men should pray, lifting holy hands without anger or quar-reling; ...This is the Word of the Lord. PEOPLE: Thanks be to God. Alleluia and Verse pg.156 Alleluia, Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. Alleluia, alleluia. Announcement of Gospel Leader: LEADER: The Holy Gospel according to Luke, the 18th chapter. PEOPLE: Glory to You, O Lord. GOSPEL TEXT: Luke 18:9-14 ESV p. 877 READER: [9] He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and treated others with contempt: [10] "Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. [11] The Pharisee, standing by himself, prayed thus: 'God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. [12] I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I get.' [13] But the tax
collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me, a sinner!' [14] I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted." ...This is the Gospel of the Lord. PEOPLE: Praise to You, O Christ. Children's Church leader: Hymn of the Day Title: "O Sing to the Lord" Number: LSB 808, Stanzas:1,2,3 O Sing to the Lord, O sing God a new song, O sing to the Lord. O sing God a new song. O sing to the Lord. O sing God a new song, O sing to our God, O sing to our God. For God is the Lord! And God has done wonders,… (3x) O sing to our God, O sing to our God. So dance for our God And blow all the trumpets…(3x0 O sing to our God, And sing to our God. Sermon Preacher: PR Title: Text: Hymn of Response Title: "O Sing to the Lord" Number: LSB 808, Stanzas:4,5 O Shout to our God, Who gave us the Spirit,…(3x)
O sing to our God, O sing to our God. For Jesus is Lord! Amen! Alleluia! (3x) O sing to our God, O sing to our God. Confession of Faith: Nicene Creed Leader: Creed: Nicene I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of His Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incar-
nate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary and was made man; and was crucified also for
us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried. And the third day He rose again ac-cording to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end. And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets. And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church, I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins, and I look for the resurrec-tion of the dead and the life of the world to come. week (8:30) by singing the ‘common doxology’ known to most of you as: “Praise God
From Whom All Blessings Flow.” Please sing your praises loudly and add harmony if you
are able. Musical notes are on p. 805 in the pew hymnal. We will sing the AMEN each

WORSHIP INTRODUCTION—HOW are we to
worship? Use our voices, use instruments, raise or clap
our hands, and even dancing in the aisles—all are ways to
give God glory in worship AND throughout our lives!
It hurts to lose someone. Find help at GriefShare with a friendly,
caring group of people who will walk alongside you through one of
life’s most difficult experiences. You don’t have to go through the
grieving process alone. GriefShare meets on Mondays at 6:30pm in
the Conference Room through July 9th
. You are welcome to attend one or all of the
sessions. The class is facilitated by Pastor Ron. Pick up an info brochure at the Welcome
Center. If interested, contact [email protected].
SUMMER BELLS—Are you interested in ringing handbells? Have you always
wanted to try but could not make a long commitment? Here’s your chance! For
the summer, our plan is to rehearse for a couple of Sunday mornings (7:30am–
8:00am) and then ring easier music that will still add beauty to our worships.
If you want to give Bells a try, now is your chance! Rehearsals are May 20, 27, &
June 3. Let Gloria know by email: [email protected].
MISS DEBBY IS RETIRING—It is bittersweet that we announce
Debby Erdmann is retiring, and in her own words, “Thanks to Dave
Ramsey, I can retire!” Debby has been our SPL front desk receptionist
for 13 years and she will be missed greatly. We thank her for those
years of service and pray that her retirement will be relaxing and re-
warding. Debby will still be around SPL volunteering but we will miss
her telephone greeting, “It’s a great day at St Paul!” Her last day at St.
Paul will be the last day of school, May 23rd
. We will be sending her off
with a card shower during our closing Chapel Service, May 23rd
at
10:45 AM. You are welcome to join us or to send in notes of appreciation and, if so
moved, gift cards which we will present to Debby at the end of chapel. (Please drop
them at the desk of Jo-Ann James.) If you have any questions about the job vacancy,
please contact Tracy, [email protected].
