River Breiðdalsá is a beautiful medium-size river on the east coast, close to the small

village of Breiðdalsvík. It is fished by 6 to 8 rods on the main salmon beats and clients

stay at what is arguably one of the most beautiful fishing lodge in the country.

Lease holder þröstur Elliðason with a typical

Breiðdalsá salmon. þröstur is a pioneer in

Iceland when it comes to making salmon

rivers. He “made” the West Rangá river.

Breiðdalsá has a good stock of salmon but

þröstur has helped the natural stock to

become even stronger.

Two different types of rivers with different character means good

variation in fishing technics. Light double hand rods on the main river

and single hands rods on Tinnudalsá. Switch rods covers all.

In one pool you fish with the rifling hitch fly in the shallows for a spotted

10 kg/20lb + fish. The next pool, a weighted Frances fly is needed. It

sure is fun to get the go through the fly box over a days fishing here.

There is catch & release on all salmon over 70 cm.

This benefits the unique salmon stock and anglers who want to take some fish home.

Late season fishing normally means no new runs of

salmon. In Breiðdalsá it is different. September nor-

mally produces up to 500 salmon with fresh fish caught

every day! Also the big salmon that entered the rivers

start to move again. Great value fishing at this time.

Yes why not? In September, the rivers welcomes anglers who prefer spinning rods. They can with suc-

cess get salmon out of the deaper holes. Both fly- and spinning anglers blend well here.

Spinning well controlled and supervised.

East Iceland is where you will find the countries reindeer. When the salmon season ends, hunters

stay at the Breiðdalsá lodge and hunt in this beautiful area. Huge amounts of geese and

ptarmigan are present from October.
