EAST GIPPSLAND SPECIALIST SCHOOL NEWSLETTER

Hello Families, Last Friday night, Julie, Kim, Rita and I attended a dinner for the Principal’s Association of Special Schools annual awards celebration because Rita was a finalist in Specialist teacher of the year award. It was an honour for Rita to reach the finals as up to 10 nominations were received for each category. Rita was nominated for the way in which she has our students’ work displayed in public spaces such as exhibitions in Galleries and the Bairnsdale Show. Rita also takes the opportunity to enter our student’s work in competitions within the Community and many of our students have been acknowledged for their entries. Rita ensures all our students have the opportunity to participate in creative pursuits. We were very proud of Rita to have been a finalist. A huge thank you goes to the staff and students who participated in the Walk to School day activity. Today’s East Gippsland News has lovely photos of our students. Thank you to Erin Fisher for making all the arrangements for this event to happen safely. Our basketballers have won the regional basketball competition and will now head to Melbourne at the end of November to compete in the state finals. Michael Mitchell reported that the students played incredibly well as a team and we wish them all the best for their games in November. On Monday, we installed 5 beautiful replica shields in our central courtyard. Thank you to Julie and Kim for organizing this. The shields represent the clans of the Gunai/Kurnai nation and it is an honour to have them displayed so beautifully. We will be holding a ceremony in the near future to acknowledge the shields in our school ground. Cheers,

Concert Video 2019 The concert video for 2019 is available for all families to get a copy at no cost. If you would like a copy please send a USB drive to school labelled clearly with your name and we will provide a copy for you to keep and watch at home. The file is in MP4 format and should play on any modern device. It is under 4GB in size. If you have any issues with it please contact Rob Cronin at the school.
