The pre wedding Maharashtrian rituals are also a part of the gala wedding. These pre wedding customs are known to start the wedding rituals for the soon to be married couple. Also, each ritual has a deep meaning and significance that is supposed to be beneficial for the soon to be weds. The Marathi wedding invitation cards also reflect the age old customs of the state.

SAKHAR PUDASakhar means sugar. This is a sweet custom that involves exchanging packets of sugar between both the families. The idea is to exchange sweets to signify that the relationship amongst both sides of the families always remain sweet and never turn sour. However, thanks to the time crunch, this ceremony is not held in isolation anymore. Now days, this ceremony is known to be a part of the engagement occasion where the bride and groom are known to exchange wedding rings amongst themselves to ensure that the bond of love and commitment stays intact throughout life.

KELVANIt is basically a puja or havan that is done by both sides of the family in front of the family idol. This Puja is held at home of both sides. The intention being that the Gods and Goddesses are asked to bless the newlyweds. The close family members are called and asked to take part in customs. It is followed by lunch or dinner.

SIMANT PUJAThis is another traditional ritual where the groom’s family is known to visit the bride’s house. The grooms family comes and has a sumptuous lunch prepared by the bride’s family and are given a warm reception ceremony.

HALADOn the very day of the wedding, before the bond of love is united a series of rituals take place since morning. One of the most auspicious occasion amongst them is the Halad ceremony .Here Haldi or turmeric is applied on the bride and groom to commence their journey of life on an auspicious note. The bride is made to sit on small wooden table and is gifted a coconut and blouse. All the family members are known to apply haldi on the bride and groom that will mark the start of their journey.These are the prominent customs, now if you have received Marathi Wedding Card then you are aware of the pre wedding ceremonies.
