Introduction

• In the book A Long Way Gone, Ishmael takes a long trip from home with his

friends to a village called Mattru Jong. War is upon his home village and move

quickly in the direction they are going to. Oblivious to the fact that war is

coming, the boys are friendly of the village people from different villages they

pass. Only to be welcomed back from there trip with dread and despair of

rebels terrorizing the people. The learn quick and must survive in the wild and

evade rebels if they wish to reunite with his family.
