This guide will be available in the languages most spoken by foreign citizens in San Donato. Instructions without boundaries

Dear Citizens, in San Donato, the separate waste collection started, in its present form, back in 2002. Since then we made many steps ahead in reducing and differentiating the waste, achieving a 50% rate of recycled materials. This result, however, is not enough: as a Local Administration, we want to improve it through a series of good practices.

The objective we have set is ambitious. We aim at achieving a rate of 70% within the next three years. In order to reach this goal, we introduced new services and initiatives, such as the quarterly distribution of biodegradable bags for the collection of food waste, and the monthly presence in each city area of the CAM (Centro Ambientale Mobile, a mobile recycling platform) with the aim of simplifying the disposal “in the neighbourhood” of special categories of waste (for example, small electric and electronic appliances, vegetable oils, light bulbs, etc.). With this brochure we would like to underline the importance of each one of us in promoting a virtuous system for the management and disposal of waste. The simple gestures explained in this guide, repeated thousands of times in our homes, in our commercial activities, in the offices and in public buildings can generate extraordinary results in terms of health protection, environmental improvement and money saving. Soon we will also implement an incentive programme for separate waste collection, as a recognition for citizens who do it with care and attention. Within 2017, the “awards” will be included in a pricing system on the waste produced, with a reduction of charges for those who will separate better, reducing the volume of unsorted waste.

Finally, further to the incentives, a stricter control scheme will be put in place. Checks will be carried out by dedicated professionals who will identify the infringements to environmental hygiene rules. These operators will check that waste be correctly conferred in the right containers as well as the right times for placing bins and bags outside the buildings. The path we have taken is long and ambitious, but we are well aware of the benefits it will bring to our community: this is why we ask you to join us with enthusiasm in this challenge. Together we can make San Donato a better city for us and for our children.

CAM – Mobile Environmental CentreThe recycling platform in your neighbourhoodIT is a mobile amenity centre where citizens

can bring Electric and Electronic Waste

(RAEE) such as small appliances, batteries,

energy-saving bulbs and neon tubes.

Also vegetable oils, spray cans and toner

cartridges can be conferred here.

Amenity Centre - Recycling platform via per MonticelloThis is a guarded and equipped area to which citizens can bring all the recyclable materials, including bulky items (such as glass sheets or large cardboard packagings), large items, inert materials (such as building waste, broken ceramics, paint scraps) or dangerous household waste. The collection is free of charge for citizens domiciled in the city.

Please remember that it is forbidden to abandon waste outside the recycling facility premises. Offenders will be prosecuted.

Bulky Items collection serviceThe door-to-door collection of bulky items is free of charge, within the limits and conditions set forth in the Municipal Regulation and/or the Mayoral Ordnance. You can book the collection online on www.amsa.it, through the app PULIamo, or by calling the toll-free number 800-332299.

The collection service is limited to the following types of bulky waste:

• furniture (cupboards, tables, armchairs, sofas, beddings, chairs, etc.).• Shelves • mattresses• apartment plants• refrigerators, freezers, deep-freezers• computers• washing machines, dishwashers, air conditioners• water heaters• exercise bikes

On the day scheduled, the material to be collected shall be put on the pavement right in front of the street number indicated, at the time that will be communicated when you fix the appointment.
