FREQUENTLY ASKED

Why is the application process so lengthy?

The public expects every police officer to fulfil their duty by being fair and impartial. Therefore, the application process is a rigorous one that can take anywhere between four and up to eight months, depending on the number of applicants.

I feel I lack the necessary experience.

Do not let this discourage you from applying. Most of the time you might not realize that you have the skills that we are looking for!

Is policing a risky career?

Challenging situations are the norm in the police force. You can never predict what you will respond to. However, rest assured that the Malta Police Force will provide you with the necessary training, equipment, and ongoing support to deal with whatever you are faced with, not to mention 2,300 colleagues ready to have your back.

What hours will I be likely to work?

The normal working week is 42 hours in rotational Day, Night, Rest, Off shifts. This does include nights, weekends, and public holidays. All shifts will be available in advance meaning you will always know when you will be working.
