Banking &

Finance

Banking & Finance Law, one of the most appreciated projects of ELSA Bucharest, has now reached its 5th edition. Due

to the approached subjects and due to the involvement showed by both students and professionals, “Banking and Finance Law” has risen each and every year, fact that was reflected in the number of participants and also in the importance of the speakers that held the lectures.

the purpose of this summer school is to show to those who are interested what involves working in this area and

also sharing the experience gained by those who are already working in this particular field. Also, to this dynamic field it is not given a great importance in our universities curriculum, there-fore, attending this summer school, participants will learn which are the opportunities and challenges present in banking and finance law. The theo-retical basis remains the one gained through college, our project having the purpose of improving it, quality wise. The lectures present a balanced view upon Romanian and English legisla-tion, offering the point of view of both the lender and the borrower.

the financial and banking sec-tor occupies a very important place in the social develop-ment and therefore it requires

special attention. The evolution of international trade and industry and even the economic crisis have determined modern banking law to become more complex. Our sum-mer school aims to continue work-ing with one of Romania’s biggest banks, The Romanian Commercial Bank (BCR), and top law firms, such as CMS, Kinstellar, NNDKP, Price-waterhouse Coopers, DLA Piper.

The participants will also have the opportunity to visit Bucharest, the most dynamic city of the country while enjoying a four-star accommodation that includes meals and social program, during a 10-day stay. During the social program, participants will have the op-portunity of discovering different traditions from all over tha world: Spain, Ukraine, United Kingdom, Georgia, Romania or Brazi. By attending this summer school each participant will have the opportunity of interaction with professional in the field. “Banking and Finance Law” builds bridges between current and future practitioners.

but also have the possibility to apply the theoretical aspects during workshops each day and, at the end of the academic program, in a moot court competition. Dispute Resolution

on the behalf of ELSA Odessa Ukraine is happy to welcome you to attend our 3rd Sum-mer Law School on Maritime

Law: Dispute Resolution.

It’s a big honor for us to have an opportunity to host our international guest in Odessa where they will be able to combine a hard work with a big pleasure, interesting lectures with exciting social program. What can be better than a fresh breeze from the sea in the morning and a nice sunbathes after lectures.

Maritime law is among the oldest branches of law. In every country in

which maritime law exists, it is treated as a separate and distinct area of the law. In general terms, maritime law concerns events and transactions that occur on navigable waters, whether oceans, gulf, or inland waterways. Although initially concerned with maritime commerce, the body of law has expanded to address contempo-rary issues such as those involving the environment and the wide-spread use of recreational vessels.

Mark Twain, who visited Odessa on board the Quaker City, wrote about Odessa: “ Wherever we look, to the right, to the left – America is every-where in front of us”.

media law

Nowadays the world is like a global village: we are able to experience an event happen-ing in that precise moment

across the world or even to meet someone a thousand miles away without leaving our home. Everything and everyone is only a click away. This became possible due to media devel-

opments and tools: the press, social networks, telecommunications, the internet itself, it all makes it easier for us. But how does it work? Is there any limitation to the power of the media? Should there be any? How can hu-man rights be violated in the process? On the other hand, how can they be protected?

our goal this year is to focus on a more practical approach of the legal issues at stake and for that we are counting with the

honorable presence of the most reputed lawyers in the field, as Anthony Hudson (Media Law specialized Lawyer and Win-ner of the Chambers Bar awards in 2012) and Gavin Millar Q (Media Law special-ized Lawyer, Winner of the Chambers Bar awards in 2012 and co-author of “Media Law and Human Rights” and “Equal-ity and Discrimination Law”), as well as excellent professors and experts in these subject matters, such as Ian Cram (Head of School and Professor of Compara-tive Constitutional Law in the University of Leeds, currently advising the Law Commission in England as it reviews the

the seminar will focus on intellectual prop-erty law with the title, ”Design Protection and Piracy Prevention”. Today, design, and especially the right design has a

tremendous meaning to consumers worldwide, and companies are spending great amounts on designs that appeals to the consumer. It is therefore of utmost importance that there are international, as well as national law regulations that protects the designs and prevents business competitors in copying them from one another. It is a wide reaching discipline, which includes everything from textile to electronic products.

Furthermore, intellectual property law is a relatively new discipline when it comes to law regulation, and we therefore believe that the sub-ject is of high relevance to upcoming lawyers. Intellectual property law is also very international orientated, due to the international conven-tions that exist on the area, which therefore also makes the seminar interesting for European participants. We are hoping provide the partici-pants with an academic ballast, which they can hopefully bring to use in their future careers. We also wish to point focus towards the develop-ment and progress of intellectual property law, both inside the EU, but also worldwide.

To ensure a high professionalism and academic level, we will thoroughly pick out lecturers among highly recognized lawyers and specialists, all with experience within intellectual property law from the University of Copenhagen, law firms, private businesses and government authorities.

The seminar also includes several social events, and sightseeing tours around Copenhagen will also be available. Furthermore we are plan-ning on visiting museums with relevance to the topic, including Danish Design Center and Fritz Hansen.
