States General of the Green Economy
Promoted by the National Council for Green Economy, made up of 66 business organisations that represent the green economy in Italy, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Economic Development.
States General is a multi-stakeholders process, connecting Government-Industry-Civil society, to promote a new trend in the Italian economy towards a green economy, opening new opportunities of lasting and sustainable development and to lead the way out of the current economic and climatic crisis through the establishment of a development programme for the growth of a green economy in Italy.
They are an initiative integrated into the European Union’s endeavour to accomplish the work undertaken at the Rio+20 Conference.
The platform of policy recommendations and normative proposals is elaborated through a bottom-up approach which encourages the wider participation of all relevant stakeholders.
The National Council established 10 Working groups consisting of representatives from organisations that represent green economy businesses, individual companies, representatives from civil society and of experts from the field.
10 Thematic National Assemblies were held between 2012 and 2013, one for each policy area in order to start the broader public consultation on the documents instructed by the Working Groups that go to build the roadmap for the green economy in Italy.
