O breathe on me, O Breath of God, Fill me with life anew, That I may love the things you love, And do what you would do. O breathe on me, O Breath of God, Until my heart is pure; Until my will is one with yours, To do and to endure. O breathe on me, O Breath of God, My will to yours incline, Until this selfish part of me Glows with your fire divine. O breathe on me, O Breath of God, So I shall never die, But live with you the perfect life For all eternity. OPENING PRAYER Celebrant: O God, you are water for our thirst and manna in our desert. We praise you for the life of Ricky, and bless your mercy that has brought his suffering to an end. Now we beg that same endless mercy to raise him to new life. Nourished by the food and drink of heaven, may he rest for ever in the joy of Christ our Lord. We ask this through the same Christ our Lord. All: Amen. EULOGIES Derek Thurgood, Wendy Thurgood, Debbie MacPherson Brian MacPherson, Des O’Keeffe FIRST READING (Romans 6:3 4, 8 9) Debbie MacPherson A reading from the Letter of St Paul to the Romans. When we were baptised in Jesus Christ, we were baptised in his death; in other words, when we were baptised we went to the tomb with him and joined him in death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead by the Father's glory, we too might live a new life. But we believe that having died with Christ we shall return to life with him: Christ, as we know, having been raised from the dead will never die again. Death has no power over him any more.

The Word of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God RESPONSORIAL PSALM The Lord Is My Shepherd (Boniwell) Brian Boniwell-‐Arrangement By Music For Funerals. ©2014 Music For Funerals used with permission

The Lord is my shepherd, and I want to follow, Wherever He leads me, wherever He goes. Over the mountains, the waters and byways. Valleys and highways, He’s waiting for me. Chorus: I want to go to meet Him there, To lay myself down in His love. The Lord is my shepherd, and I want to follow, Wherever He leads me, wherever He goes. And while on the journey, to where we are going, He promised to be there to help us along. And over the mountains, we’ll walk on together, To know all the wonders He’s given to me. Chorus GOSPEL ACCLAMATION (sung) Alleluia Alleluia Alleluia, I am the resurrection and the life says the Lord, He who believes in Me will not die forever. Alleluia Alleluia Alleluia.

GOSPEL (John 14: 1 – 6)

Celebrant: A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to John. Jesus said to his disciples: "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God still, and trust in me. There are many rooms in my Father's house; if there were not, I should have told you. I am going to prepare a place for you, and after I have gone and prepared you a place, I shall return to take you with me; so that where I am you may be too. You know the way to the place where I am going." Thomas said to him, "Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?" Jesus replied, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." The Gospel of the Lord. All: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. HOMILY Celebrant PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL Vanessa Thurgood Celebrant: Let us pray for Ricky to our Lord Jesus Christ, who said: “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me shall live even in death, and whoever lives and believes in me shall never die”.

COMMUNION HYMN The Servant Song Richard Gillard- Arrangement by Music For Funerals ©2014 Music For Funerals used with permission

Will you let me be your servant. Let me be as Christ to you. Pray that I may have the grace To let you be my servant, too. We are pilgrims on a journey. We are travellers on the road. We are here to help each other Walk the mile and bear the load. I will hold the Christ-light for you In the night time of your fear. I will hold my hand out to you; Speak the peace you long to hear. I will weep when you are weeping. When you laugh, I’ll laugh with you. I will share your joy and sorrow Till we’ve seen this journey through. When we sing to God in Heaven, We shall find such harmony Born of all we’ve known together Of Christ’s love and agony. Will you let me be your servant. Let me be as Christ to you. Pray that I may have the grace To let you be my servant, too.

PRAYER AFER COMMUNION Celebrant: Let us pray. Lord God, in the Sacrament of his Body, your Son left us food for the journey. Mercifully grant that, strengthened by that food, Ricky may come to the eternal table of Christ. Who lives and reigns for ever and ever. All: Amen PHOTO MEMORIES OF RICKY He Aint Heavy, He's My Brother by The Hollies Ticket to Heaven by Gary Ellis WORDS OF THANKS Derek Thurgood PRAYERS OF FINAL COMMENDATION Celebrant: With faith in Jesus Christ, we reverently bring the body of Ricky to be buried in its human imperfection. Let us pray with confidence to God, who gives life to all things, that He will raise this mortal body to the perfection and the company of the saints. May God give him a merciful judgement and forgive all his sins. May Christ the Good Shepherd, lead him safely home to be at peace with God our Father. And may he be happy forever with all the saints in the presence of the Eternal King.

When Ricky was baptised he was baptised into the death of Christ. The Father has raised the Lord Jesus from the dead, and we too have been raised in him to live a new life for God. Through baptism, we have shared in the death of Jesus in order that we may also share in the death of Jesus, in order that we may also share in his resurrection. In memory of Ricky’s baptism, we use this Holy Water, and call on the Lord Jesus to welcome him in to the glory of eternal life. Celebrant: Saints of God, come to his aid! Come to meet him, Angels of the Lord! All: Receive his soul and present him to God the Most High. Celebrant: May Christ, who called you. Take you to himself, May Angels lead you to Abraham’s side. All: Receive his soul and present him to God the Most High. Celebrant: Give him eternal rest, O Lord, And may your light shine upon him forever. All: Receive his soul and present him to God the Most High. Celebrant: Father, into your hands we commend, Ricky. We are confident that with all who have died in Christ, he will be raised to life on the last day and live with Christ forever.

We thanks you for the blessing you gave him in this life to show your fatherly care for all of us, and the fellowship which is ours with all the saints. Lord, hear our prayer. Welcome Ricky into Paradise and help us to comfort each other with the assurance of our faith until we all meet in Christ to be with you and with Ricky forever. We ask this though Christ our Lord. All: Amen. Celebrant: Ricky, may the Angels lead you into Paradise, may the martyrs come to welcome you and take you to the Holy City, the new and eternal Jerusalem. People of the Lord, let us go in the peace of Christ. All: Thanks be to God. RECESSIONAL HYMN Take My Hand, Precious Lord. Thomas A. When my way groweth drear Precious Lord, linger near When my light is almost gone Hear my cry, hear my call Hold my hand lest I fall Take my hand, precious Lord Lead me on Chorus When my work is all done And my race here is run Let me see by the light Thou hast shown That fair city so bright Where the lantern is the light Take my hand, precious Lord Lead me on Chorus Excerpts from the English translation of the Roman Missal © 2010, International Commission on English in the Liturgy
