Contemporary, Traditional, Transitional or Eclectic? Decora ng can be both basic and complex at the same me. It can be used to evoke
emo ons, sen mentality and passion. If done well, interior decora ng captures the spirit
and the essence of the individual’s personal taste. Bold or unassuming, majes c or
simplis c, design is everywhere and in everything there is design.
The key component to successfully execu ng a design plan is to first iden fy your personal
design style. While decora ng a new space can be exci ng, it can also be a bit
overwhelming if you “kinda, sorta” know what you like, but in all honesty aren’t really sure.
Once you know what your design style is, then you can build a design plan around it,
complete with all of furnishings, ligh ng, tex les and other so goods selected to mirror
that design style.
To assist you in iden fying your personal design style, Redux Virtual Design has developed
this easy reference E‐book, What’s Your Design Style? In it, we have outlined each of the
design styles, accompanied by examples and accessories. We hope that you find it useful.
Happy Decora ng!

Our Design Philosophy
“Living in a great space that is beau ful
is not about replacing everything you
have with new furniture and
accessories.
It's about tapping into crea vity;
combining the old with the new,
because good design is priceless.
Good design will enhance your home
and make sure that your environment
is a reflec on of your personal style!”

Sleek & Modern A contemporary design is o en about what's missing rather than what it contains.
The furnishings in a modern interior will have clean, straight lines, finishes like brushed
aluminum and sumptuous fabrics like silk and suede.
The color pale e can range anywhere from all‐white to a pop of bright colors or simply
neutrals paired with natural materials.
And don't forget what natural light can do
for the design‐‐with rays cas ng shadows
and highlights, you'll be in for a Zen‐like
experience.

Elegant & Refined Tradi onal design style is noted for embracing an elegant and refined aesthe c. France,
England, and Italy originated this design style during the 18th or early 19th century.
Typically, tradi onal style furniture was made from deeply carved, thick wood, o en
stained dark, with elaborate hand‐carved scrolls and with ball or claw feet.
Elaborate inlaid sec ons to the furniture pieces, in solid brass and exo c materials, such as
bone or ivory, most exemplify this design style.
Fabrics were
o en made from
silk intricate
pa erns, solid
colors or tapes‐
tries.

A Marriage of Styles Transi onal style is a marriage of contemporary and tradi onal furniture, finishes, materi‐
als and fabrics.
It has a sophis cated feel, which is classic and comfortable, without the more ornate styl‐
ing of some tradi onal interiors or the more basic lines of contemporary designs.
With the use of subtle color
pale es, warm wood tones an
emphasis on ivory taupe,
beige and tan the transi onal
style joins the best of both
the tradi onal and the mod‐
ern worlds.

Purposeful Mixing An eclec c design is more a purposeful mixing and matching of pieces according to color,
form and finish.
It's a way to incorporate your family an ques and trendy new pieces in one room while
keeping a cohesive look.
The color pale e can range from
a backdrop of tone‐on‐tone neu‐
trals to vivid hues‐‐it all depends
on what makes you feel at
home..

About
Redux Virtual Design is a full‐service
Interior Decora ng firm focused on
delivering high‐quality design solu ons for
the built environment. Our mo o is:
Changing spaces one room at a me.
Whether we create a new design from
scratch or refresh the look of a favorite
space, we are commi ed to excellence in
decora ng and firmly believe that the built
environment should be responsive to the
client’s individual needs and lifestyle.
We believe that good decora ng should
be easily accessible to everyone and at
any budget. That’s the reason why
Redux Virtual Design is a completely online
business, one that embraces and employs
the latest in technology. Unlike that old
stereotype about the flamboyant Interior
Decorator swooping in and proposing the
most imprac cal items with a 300%
upcharge, we charge flat rates per room,
per space for our interior decora ng
services.
And finally, a few words about our name ‐
Redux Virtual Design. Pronounced [re‐do],
redux means to restore, to bring back, to
revisit. We chose that name because we
are so totally into green design and
recycling. Our middle names are sale,
clearance and bargain, so much so that we
would easily drive 100+ miles to purchase
high end, upscale merchandise at an
exclusive Estate Sale.
But, by far, what we do best is pu ng the
decora ng puzzle together; we survey a
room and with our mind’s eye create the
unique canvas that will eventually become
a spectacularly decorated space – your
space.
About the Principal Decorator
Sharon Johnson‐Lo is the Principal Interior Decorator at Redux Virtual Design
and President & Managing Director of the LifeStyle division of
theknicholsgroupe LLC. A discerning individual, she is capable of both right
and le brain ac on, which she put to good use with a career in the Energy,
Non‐Profit and LifeStyle & Home Interior Decora ng sectors.
A renaissance woman, she truly knows a li le bit about everything and she has
been decora ng interiors for years. A er re ring from a successful career in
the Energy, Retail and Non‐Profit sectors, she decided to finally devote me to
her personal hobby and passion for decora ng homes.
She leans toward the tradi onal with a splash of Southern formality and firmly
believes that no ma er where you live your home should always reflect your
own personal style. Because she says, quo ng Billy Baldwin, “Be faithful to
your own taste because nothing you really like is ever out of style.” She will
tell you that she’s never met a home that she couldn’t improve upon. Don’t
know what Scalamandré tex les are? Not sure where to find mid‐century
modern furniture? Not to worry, Sharon does.
Sharon is a graduate of Texas Southern University with a Bachelor of Arts
degree in History and Houston Community College with an Associate degree in
Interior Design. She is an ac ve community volunteer, a jazz and blues music
enthusiast and a fantas c Creole home chef. Only the brave venture into her
kitchen because they know that she’s apt to give a pop quiz on the five Mother
sauces. How do you make Gumbo? First, you make a roux!
