Story/Article

The annual gala to support the Shreveport Little Theatre will bring the excitement of the fashion runway and theatrical costuming to the Margaritaville Resort Paradise Theatre on Saturday April 13, 2019 from 11am to 2 pm. Guests will enjoy a brunch buffet, Mimosas and Bloody Marys. For tickets/sponsorships, contact Sara Coleman at (318) 286-0155 [email protected]. It is anticipated to be a sold-out, fun-filled affair of 300 fashionistas. Joining Robert Darrow, SLT Managing and Artistic Director, in the program will be men, women and children who participate in all aspects of SLT productions, modeling current fashions from many local clothiers and depicting scenes from SLT productions. Guests will be “walking the runway” and posing for photos.

Bobby Darrow, Sue Wyche, Peggy San Pedro and Carol Z. Ferrara

Gala event co-chairs are Sue Wyche, Dr. Gerry and Peggy San Pedro, and Carol Z. Ferrara, SLT Guild President. Emcee, Mike Martindale, and celebrity auctioneers will be hosting and toasting. The modeling will be at both floor and runway levels, interspersed during the event. This will give guests time to enjoy brunch and the silent and live auctions, which will include dinners, parties and much more. The gala will close with a runway and room filled with fashion and theatre flair!

“This Guild gala is the single most exciting and important event of the year for SLT. This fun occasion brings together those in our community who love theatre and appreciate SLT’s rich history in American theatre. Without the funds raised by our patrons at this gala, SLT would not be able to fulfill our mission of presenting quality live theatre to our region,” said Darrow.

Individuals, companies and foundations are invited to sponsor the gala for advertising and name promotion before our community’s most preferred consumers, SLT members, patrons, event attendees and theatregoers or to donate goods or services for the auctions. Four tiers of sponsorships (Producer, Director, Starring Role, and Co-Star) each come with tickets to the gala, complimentary SLT Production tickets and recognition at the event. The top sponsor tier, the Producer, will also get a table at the gala for ten; ten SLT season memberships; recognition during each SLT performance including Mamma Mia!, the 2019 Summer Musical. Funds raised at the gala support not only the season performances but also the theatre’s robust education and community outreach programs, like our ongoing work with four area nonprofit social service agencies and the Academy Program for young actors. visit: www.shreveportlittletheatre.com and Facebook Over the years, SLT has partnered with SRAC, Robinson Film Center, Shreveport Symphony, Centenary College of Louisiana, LSUS, R.W. Norton Art Gallery, Woman’s Department Club, East Bank Theatre, Company Repertory Theatre, and many others—together contributing to the strength and depth of Shreveport’s performing arts community.

Having a vibrant theatre in Shreveport adds to our region’s cultural vitality and quality of life, according to the SLT’s artistic director. When putting together each season, Darrow says the goal is to provide a range of experiences that will speak to people of all backgrounds and ages, and to present shows that are warm and welcoming to theatre aficionados and first-timers alike. Darrow is recognized for his commitment to creative artistry, innovative programming, and audience and community engagement. The 2017-2018 season SLT produced hits such as: Thoroughly Modern Millie, On Golden Pond, and Of Mice and Men. The 2018-2019 season SLT will stage: Memphis, Cash on Delivery, A Southern Exposure, One Slight Hitch, GlenGarry Glen Ross, Erma Bombeck: At Wit’s End, Becky’s New Car, Inherit the Wind, The Fantasticks and Mamma Mia!, along with the Academy’s productions for youth. Directors include Mike Martindale, Mary Joris, Richard and Ginger Folmer, Shawn Dion, John Daniel, Robert Alford, and Anna Marie Sparke.

SLT is excited to be the first theatre in our region to receive the rights to produce Mamma Mia!, which will be the theatre’s 2019 Summer Musical! Now in its 97th year, the Shreveport Little Theatre is Louisiana’s oldest continually operating community theatre and one of the most respected regional theatres in the U.S. Darrow is enthusiastic about the Theatre, its reach and its impact. “Theatre provides opportunities for us to escape, to educate, and transcend the routine of everyday life. When the lights dim in the theatre, SLT audiences are prepared to experience hilarious comedy or gripping drama. Good theatre comments on our society, our experiences, and our hopes and dreams.” For tickets/sponsorships, contact: Sara Coleman at (318) 286-0155 [email protected]
