100% of the Proceeds from A Family Affair go to the Emory ADRC

Emory University’s ADRC is one of eleven National Institutes of Health recognized research centers in

the country. Over the past five years, it has supported 47 funded research investigators from 20 departments and schools across the University, carrying out 71 federal research grants. In addition, the Emory ADRC collaborated on 34 federally funded projects with other institutions and numerous other non-federally funded projects. Each member of our team plays a key role in seeking cures and developing new treatments for Alzheimer’s.

Despite Emory ADRC’s extraordinary record of obtaining federal research grants, the cost of finding a cure carries a much bigger price tag. Treating individuals with Alzheimer’s costs more than $230 billion a year; that is more than 230 times the annual budget for finding a cure. Put another way, for every dollar spent today on caring for those with Alzheimer’s, the federal government invests less than a penny on research. At a cost of over $18 million an hour, Alzheimer’s is the most expensive disease in the country. Philanthropic dollars are key to filling the funding gap in research dollars.
