Word Wall Words –

A-E (long A sound)

There are a variety of flashcards/wall word types and difficulty levels to choose from in this pack, depending on the needs of your class. There are:

• 5 simple 4 letter A-E words – great for building confidence!: cane, game, male, wave, cape

• 8 A-E words with initial blends (including WH): snake, plane, skate, drake, plate, whale, planes, spade

• 8 compound words, 5 with pictures: baseball, skateboard, earthquake, bookcase, homemade, backache, sunbathe, cupcake. Some of these have the ‘magic e’ word as the first word, showing kids how the magic ‘e’ stays where it is, but still doesn’t say anything!

In this pack, one of the flashcards in ‘flames’. For this card, I’ve used the same picture I’ve used for ‘fire’ in the I-E (Magic E) pack. I’ve done this throughout my cards (used the same picture to illustrate related, but different words). I find that it helps the kids realise that, while the pictures definitely help us to read new words, it is still important to look at all the letters, so we make sure we have the right word.
