The brothers wanted to find a dragon

because they wanted to become knights.

DON’T BE AFRAID!

The older brother said to the little one.

Instead, they heard a tiny little voicethat came from inside a stone well.

Heeeeeelp meeeee!!!!

Page 15: A dragon in a well, a fairytale by Isabel Esteban Gibaja

The brothers approached the well and inside it, they could see

a reddish little dragon!!!!

‘If you help me, I’ll give you everything you want’.

Page 16: A dragon in a well, a fairytale by Isabel Esteban Gibaja

The kids stopped and looked over the walls of the well.

‘If we help you, you will eat us’.

The dragon wept and wept, and cried and cried, until he had no tears left in his eyes.

‘We, dragons, are fire creatures. If you leave me here, in this well, I’ll be dead within a day, for water is the greatest enemy of fire creatures’.

The brothers felt pity for him and decided to help him

‘What should we do?’

Page 19: A dragon in a well, a fairytale by Isabel Esteban Gibaja

The dragon said

‘You must look for a penny in your pockets’

Page 20: A dragon in a well, a fairytale by Isabel Esteban Gibaja

Saddly, the brothers said:

We don’t have any pennies

Page 21: A dragon in a well, a fairytale by Isabel Esteban Gibaja

And the dragon said

Close your eyes. Put your hands into them and you’ll find half a penny there

Page 22: A dragon in a well, a fairytale by Isabel Esteban Gibaja

And so they did, and what a surprise!, they found half a penny in each of their pockets.

Page 23: A dragon in a well, a fairytale by Isabel Esteban Gibaja

The brothers asked then,

‘What should we do now?’

Page 24: A dragon in a well, a fairytale by Isabel Esteban Gibaja

‘Now you must throw your coins into the well and wish me out of this place’

Page 25: A dragon in a well, a fairytale by Isabel Esteban Gibaja

And so did they, and in the blink of an eye the dragon was standing next to them, with a big and friendly

smile in his face. ‘Thanks a lot for helping me out. It is really wondrous that two tiny little humans like you help a dragon like me,

Everybody knows that humans usually leave aside things they don’t understand or fear. But you helped me out of that well, anyway.

.

It is my will to give you anything you wish, as I promised. Whenever you need help, you will return to this well and make a wish. Everything you wish will be granted to you, and from this moment on this well will be named ‘the wishing well of the dragon’.

The children returned to their hut and told their granny everything about the dragon

I cannot believe it!!!!

Page 28: A dragon in a well, a fairytale by Isabel Esteban Gibaja

So they took her to the well,

And they wished to have a lovely and comfortable cottage where their hut stood

Page 29: A dragon in a well, a fairytale by Isabel Esteban Gibaja

and once they had returned to the place, they found the lovely cottage

Page 30: A dragon in a well, a fairytale by Isabel Esteban Gibaja

Their granny laughed aloud and clapped her hands, and in that moment she promised not to judge anyone from their appearance, for an ugly resemblance could keep a warm and kind heart, as her grandsons had found out in the dragon.
