PROJECT PROGRESS

The new three-story, medical office building broke ground in Summer 2018. Construction is being led by McCownGordon Construction in collaboration with Professional Engineering Consultants, and designer, Pulse Design Group. The Class A facility will house multiple medical specialties under one roof including a 27,000 square foot surgery center, and will serve Douglas

County and surrounding communities’ healthcare needs for decades to come. The interior space will include high-end finishes throughout the lobby and common areas with three public entrances. The base building is scheduled to be delivered by Spring 2020.

“With construction of this center, we are underscoring our commitment to the city of Lawrence in a new way,” said Cindy Yulich, who chairs the Trustees. “During our community hospital’s 97-year history, any new construction has been centered here, at our Maine Street campus. We believe this outpatient center perfectly parallels our new strategic plan, which strengthens our resolve to collaborate with healthcare providers, to be as convenient as possible, and to

be ‘a partner for lifelong health.’”

“We’re in a changing landscape, nationally and statewide, as far as healthcare is concerned,” Larry McElwain said. “And Lawrence Memorial is staying on the front edge of planning and innovating and building what their patients in Lawrence and beyond need – a facility where people can walk in from a short

distance and don’t have to navigate large parking lots. “This facility in Lawrence not only strengthens Lawrence, but it strengthens the region. It gives opportunities to people who live here and to people who might

visit here seeking high-quality healthcare.”
