A special gala day message from David Priestley, Managing Director, Wrexham Lager Beer Company Ltd. Ladies and Gentlemen,

Once again it is my very great pleasure to welcome you all to the Wrexham Lager Gala Day. Although I know from my diary

that it is twelve months since I last wrote a similar sentence, it certainly does not feel that long!

This year marks the fourth year of the Gala and every year it gets better. Last year saw 12,000 people enjoy a day out. More importantly some £6,000 was raised for charities in the area. That figure was a 50 per cent improvement on the year before, so there is much to aim for this year.

The success of the Gala and the generosity shown is something Wrexham can be proud of. Certainly the brewery feels proud to be able to put something back into the community at the same time as helping those less fortunate than ourselves.

Thirty charities will be taking part again this year. Over 50 applications were received by the closing date — a tribute to the popularity of the event.

In case you hadn't noticed, this year's Gala is a Medieval spectacular complete with jousters, jesters, a baby elephant and Spit the Dog with his owner Bob Carolgees. Certainly something there for everyone and you would be advised to keep hold of your programme to make sure you don't miss anything.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have given freely of their time to help get this year's Gala ready for the big day and to thank you all in advance for the help you will be giving to thirty deserving charities.

All that remains is to keep my fingers crossed for good weather and wish everyone a very enjoyable day. PLEASE GIVE GENEROUSLY!

HOLD TIGHT —SPIT'S OH THE LOOSE! STARS OF TV'S "HOLD TIGHT", BOB CAROLGEES AND SPIT THE DOG ARE THE SPECIAL GUEST STARS AT THE WREXHAM LAGER CHARITY GALA DAY THIS YEAR

Bob and Spit will be making their entrance when the Gala Parade leaves the brewery social club at 1.30. The famous couple will be riding high on the Tetley Walker dray pulled by the magnificent Tetley shire horses.

Spit has been kitted out with a specially made Medieval costume to celebrate the event and Bob himself may even decide to take the plunge and dress up as a court jester.

The comedy duo are famous to millions who remember the impact they made on T V ' s " T i s w a s " programme. Since then Bob and the mischievous Spit have never been away from our screens.

A s well as his appearances on the kids show "Hold T ight " , Bob is a co-presenter on Cilia Black's "Surprise Surprise" show.

Along with Spit and Bob, the parade will include local figures and the Wrexham Lager vintage car. When they reach the ground, the procession will be met by a guard of honour in Medieval fancy dress, all of them contestants in the Wrexham Leader's Gala competition.

Once at Plas Coch, Bob and Spit will be making a tour of the Gala ground. They will visit as many of the stands as possible, delighting the children and the not so young.

Although Bob is now established as one of today's real entertainment professionals, how many people know that he started his working life as a Bobby on the beat in Birmingham?

After that, he set up a record shop in Liverpool where he developed a puppet-mime act to bring in the customers. Unfortunately for Bob, his act was too entertaining because everyone forgot to buy his records!

It was this experience that led him to take to the stage full time and he has never looked back. If you fancy your chances at trying to outwit Spit, just look for the crowd of children — Bob won't be far away.
