A Day in the Life... of the Kaye Prox Food Bank

11:00John arrives and unlocks the food pantry.
11:15The grocery carts and supplies for the homeless need to be unpacked.
11:20John sets up tables for the homeless.
11:25The shelves are pretty bare!
11:30John checks the storage area to see what we already have.
11:45Marilyn arrives and checks the mail for letters for the homeless.
12:00A generous supporter has dropped off donated food!
12:15The Feeding America truck arrives. We get a delivery once a week. Feeding America provides food for a handling charge of $ 0.18 per pound.
12:15Today three pallets of food are being delivered.
12:20Here it comes!
12:25 It takes about an hour to unload and unpack the delivery.
12:30Stocking the shelves.
1:20Done! The shelves are now full.
1:45Today volunteers from USF are organizing the food pantry and helping families.
2:25Volunteers set up a hot meal for the homeless.
2:35The food bank provides clothing as well as food.
2:40We are ready to welcome our families.
2:50The first family arrives at the registration table.
3:00Full house!
3:05Volunteers assist our families in selecting items from the food pantry.
4:20The last family has gone through the food pantry.
Today we served 17 families with 42 family members and 24 homeless individuals.
This week we provided emergency food and support for 68 families with 141 family members and 79 homeless individuals.
4:25Now it’s time to put away carts and supplies and get the room ready for Sunday.
4:45Marilyn locks up after a long—but great—day!
