New Year’s Resolutions!

No, that is not a typo! It is time to make New Year’s resolutions. The reason I say that is we usually make such resolutions at the end of December to coincide with the new calendar year. In reality the majority of us live by the academic calendar. By the way, this week will mark six months since New Year’s Eve. How have you done on your resolutions? We are halfway through 2019!

From the time we first headed off to kindergarten to the time we looked for-ward to graduation, we are used to the year beginning in August. This is when our schedules change and we settle into a routine that will take us through next June. In some way this impacts all of us whether we are teachers, parents, grandparents, or stu-dents.

July is a good time to plan the year. We will jump into the “new year” and be-fore you know it it will be Thanksgiving time. What goals and resolutions can you make the coming year? Instead of feeling like you are a prisoner to the schedule be proactive and build a manageable schedule. Here are a few suggestions:

-Be faithful to Sunday Mass and holy days. Our lives should be built around the Mass. The Mass celebrates the life, death and Resurrection of Jesus. We will be strengthened in this life and led to eternal life through participation in Holy Mass. If you have to trav-el find a church. With the Internet you can find a Catholic Church and Mass times. -Daily prayer: Those who are in love find time to talk every day. Set aside time for daily prayer for at least ten or fifteen minutes a day. Work on growing the quantity and quality of your prayer this year. -Family Prayer: Find a weekly time to pray as a family. Perhaps with a Rosary, maybe by discussing the Sunday scriptures. Perhaps before bedtime. It could be as simple as everyone voicing an intercession and praying a Hail Mary. -Family Meals: Sit down as a family as often as possible and share a meal. Are you single or alone? Find some others with whom you can share a meal on a regular basis. -Family Activities: When is the last time you went to a park, hiked a nature trail or rode bikes? Sunday afternoons are a great time to bond as a family. We could speak about exercise and recreation, vacations, dates night with your spouse and many other ideas. The important thing to remember is none of these things hap-pen by themselves. What else will be part of your resolutions for a holy and healthy 2019-2020 school year? -Fr. Tim McKeown

Musician Needed!

St Francis Xavier is looking for a part-time musician. Applicant would need to be able to play

organ and piano and have avail-ability to play weekends, Holy Days, and funerals. Liturgical

experience is preferred. Please contact Fr. Tim at tmcke-

[email protected] with resumes or more information.

The Office is CLOSED Wednesday, July 3 through Friday, July 5. Fr. Chris will be

out of the office July 1-5. Please contact the office or St. Francis’ office if you

need a priest.

CATHOLIC FUNERALS On Monday July 8 at 7:00 pm in the So-cial Hall Fr. Tim will give a talk on Catho-lic Funerals and answer the most com-mon questions people have about fu-

nerals. Come and bring your questions!

Thank You Jane Heying will be retiring as Chair of the Finance

Committee at the end of June. We would like to thank her for her service on the Finance Committee and for

all she continues to do for Nativity.
