I don’t want to assume anything about your relationship with the Trinity, but I know for me, the person of the Holy Spirit was always somewhat of a mystery. � With all of this talk about the New Evangelization, Unleashing the Gospel through the power of the Holy Spirit and moving

f rom a main tenance to missionary Church, have we paused to ask ourselves if we really know anything about the Holy Spirit?

Many Catholics know God as their Father and Jesus as their friend, yet just as many are unsure of the third person of the Holy Trinity in their spiritual lives.

If you feel as if God’s love in your life is missing, stagnant, trapped or cold; if you have never really felt like a child of God, or as if your love for Him never reaches out and fills your whole life; if you’ve ever wondered how a relationship with God could be personal, or if a relationship with God could be relatable to your every moment, I invite you to get to know the wild and wonderful Holy Spirit. If you only have a relationship with Jesus, and/or with God the Father, you are missing a piece of being in relationship with Him. He wants to pour into your life love and fullness like

you’ve never experienced before through the Holy Spirit.

Where to start? I invite you to join the youth group in watching The Wild Goose Series by Father Dave Pivonka on Formed.org (our Parish code gives you a free subscription:6ZGVKQ) or visit thewildgooseisloose.com to start your journey towards getting to

know the Holy Spirit. If you can do it with a group of friends, even be t te r ! We al l need to decompress what we learn and where we are at on our journey with God. We have really enjoyed it so far.

On a personal level, I can tell you I began to know the Holy Spirit through Adoration on retreat with the youth group (so yeah...like one year ago) and I am only beginning to tap into my relationship with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit has convicted me in my faith and in the fact that I am loved as His child like no other experience I have had and I can’t wait to see what else the Holy Spirit has in store for me. Pray for God (if you dare) to pour forth into your heart His love and to awaken

a Pentecost like that of the apostles through the Holy Spirit in you. Sometimes this will happen right away and other times we have to keep asking. All I know is this: God wants you to feel His love through the Holy Spirit, so if you haven’t tried it yet...do Stephanie Carder

S]hool N_ws Despite the intrusive snow resulting in a snow day, I am still happy to report how well things are going at school! Students and teachers have been working hard on increasing skills and meeting goals, and great progress is being made. February always proves to be a busy month even though there are less actual days at school. The

students and staff are looking forward to our winter break that begins on Monday. Please remember that the students do the Stations of the Cross every Friday, so if you can please join us on March 2 at 12:20 in the Church. This week our school news highlights the middle school classes taught by Mrs. Beach.

Science: �� 6th grade just wrapped up minerals with their identifying

minerals lab last week. They are now working on the three main types of rocks; igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic!

�� 7th science is working on genetics and heredity. They just did an activity looking at Mendelian traits such as attached or detached earlobes, or freckles or no freckles. They will be starting a pedigree project next week!

�� 8th grade Science class is continuing to learn about the systems of the human body. Last week the students wrapped up of the circulatory system and are now starting the respiratory system which will be followed by the lymphatic system. By mid or the end of the semester 8th grade should be concluding their frog dissection as the culminating project. If that isn’t enough, the 8th graders will be starting Chemistry for the 4th quarter.

History: �� The 7th grade is working on the Revolutionary War and will be

looking at the creation of the United States Constitution.

�� The 8th grade just finished the Civil War we are now moving into the Reformation period of the America Workplace.

Religion: �� In 7th grade Religion, we just finished looking at the

sacraments of initiation; Baptism and Confirmation. We are now moving into learning about the Eucharist.

�� 7th grade should be wrapping up their service hours for this year in this 3rd quarter.

�� We also celebrated the induction of 8 of our class members into the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS).

Every Catholic School in the Archdiocese of Detroit is going through a Strategic Planning process. As part of the process, the AOD has included a survey for parishioners, parents, and students in grades 5-8. The survey was compiled by representatives of the Center for Catholic School Effectiveness at Loyola University. To receive the most accurate information, I am asking the parishioners

to voice their opinions by taking part in this survey. You can go to the parish or school website and find the Survey box. Click on “Go to Survey” and begin the process. The AOD extended the window of completion from February 13th to February 20th. Thank you for your support.

A couple points of clarification: �� You will be asked with which Catholic School you are affiliated.�� If a question uses words like “everyone” or “all” please know

that means around 80-85%.�� The first questions in the survey are opinion questions about

ST. LEO’S SOUP KITCHEN�Lenten Lunch Project�

We are excited about helping St. Leo’s Soup Kitchen again this year. Roll up your sleeves and let’s start cooking! Once again main entrees should be cooked, cooled and ready to go in the freezer at St. Clare. If you cook early in the week you may freeze your dish and bring it frozen. Also, the food drop-off time is 4:45-6:00 PM on Sunday in Social Hall Kitchen area. Those attending our 5:00 PM Mass can drop off items before Mass. Please wrap all food securely. Once again, the Main Entrée should come cooked but cooled and ready for the freezer. If you prefer to sign-up to donate food via the phone, please call Mike McDevitt at 313-647-5025. The dates below are the Sunday we collect food. The food is delivered on Monday of that week and served on Tuesday. First Sunday of Lent Baptism and repentance is the common link in today’s Scripture readings. In the Book of Genesis, God enters a covenant with Noah and his descendants to never again devastate the earth with a flood. St. Peter, in the Second Reading, refers to Noah and the flood: … Eight in all, were saved through water. This prefigured baptism, which saves you now. The sacrament of Baptism forgives sin and calls us to discipleship in Christ. Through joy and stewardship, we act out this call in charity and love of God and neighbor. At Easter, we strengthen our discipleship by renewing our baptismal promises, vowing to reject Satan and the glamour of evil in our lives. In the Gospel of St. Mark, Jesus holds firm against the devil’s temptations in the desert. May we week the Lord’s grace in times of weakness so we, too, can avoid temptation that leads to sin. This Lent, participate in the sacrament of Reconciliation to prepare yourself for the Risen Christ.

Permanent Diaconate

Men who feel called to serve the Lord and His Church as a per-manent deacon are invited to learn more about this vocation and the requirements for ordination during an information night at De-troit’s Sacred Heart Major Seminary on Wednesday, February 28.

The ministry of a permanent deacon is threefold: ministry of the Word, ministry of the liturgy, and ministry of charity and justice. Deacons are a familiar sight in our parishes, where they assist the priest at Mass by preaching the Gospel and delivering the homily. Some also serve as chaplains at hospitals and colleges.

Your gifts to the Catholic Services Appeal support the Office for Clergy and Consecrated Life, and the Permanent Diaconate Infor-mation Team, as well as provide assistance for men in formation at Sacred Heart Major Seminary.

LENT: Lent is a special time for everyone, young and old. It is the Church’s springtime, a spiritual renewal. Just like we do spring cleaning, we do “soul searching” during the Church’s springtime. So, what does this mean?

PRAYER: Make prayer time a little more special. Go to Mass during the week. Participate in Adoration, attend the Stations of the Cross, pray with intention, sing at the liturgy. FASTING/SACRIFICE: Decide a practice that will help make you a “better version of yourself” like giving up swearing, call people you have not heard from recently, clean out your closet, go with-out coffee, cake, beer, a video game, a favorite show or perhaps having a rice meal. ALMSGIVING/ACTS OF CHARITY: This is a practice of sharing our gifts. If you have “given up” something that cost money, be sure to put that money in your rice bowl. You may decide to visit the nursing home, take dinner to someone who is having a diffi-cult time. It may be giving money so you do not spend it on un-needed items. Almsgiving is a reminder of those less fortunate. I suggest you keep your Rice Bowl on your dining room table as a reminder to pray, fast and give alms. I pray you have a fruitful Lenten Season. God bless you. Children’s Catechesis: There is no Sunday family today or next Sunday and no Monday class, tomorrow, February 19. Next Sunday, February 25 there will be a Rite of Enrollment for First Communion at the 9:00 Mass. Parents, God parents, and children preparing for Reconciliation and Communion should meet in the vestibule at 8:45. Please have the child’s baptismal candle with you. (If you have not found yours yet, be prepared to purchase one for $3.) Following the Mass there will be a parent/child meeting in the social hall. Families are asked to bring a breakfast treat to share. Grades 3 and 4 are asked to attend this Mass also and to bring a breakfast treat also. These young ones will be in the offertory procession. Confirmation: Seventh and Eighth Graders preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation have responsibilities that need to be met…this week. �� Wednesday - Read Matthew 25:31-46. Think about what verse 45 means to you.

�� Thursday - Re-read Matthew 25: 31-46. Ask yourself if it is easier for you to be the doer of the Works of Mercy or the receiver.

�� Friday – Write down your thoughts on accepting what God and life hand to you. Saturday - Read the Third Commandment, Reflect on the Third Commandment. How does the Third Commandment apply to you?

Adult Faith Formation: The study of the Acts of the Apostles con-tinues Thursday evenings with a dinner at 6:30 and presentation at 7:10 and on Monday mornings at 9:00 and on Sundays with the Sunday family after the 9:00 Mass. There is also an opportunity for studying History of the Church on Friday mornings at 9:00. If you cannot attend a planned program of faith formation, you are not excused from your personal faith formation! Read the Bible, a good spiritual book, use your Lenten book every day, find a pro-gram or movie on FORMED. BUT please do something to en-hance your relationship with JESUS. We also went to Babies and Bowling, a Preg-nancy Aid fundraiser. This week we finally put our Christmas tree on the curb and prepared to experience Lent. We are starting by attending 6:30 AM Mass on Ash Wednesday!

Fr. Andrew will be discussing Catholic protocol for Catholic Funerals and what the Church asks of its faithful at the time of a death. Representatives from Resurrection Cemetery and Verheyden Funeral Home will be there to answer your questions and discuss the options available to you regarding decisions you must make at the time of someone’s death, as well as, the im-portance and value of pre-planning. We are off to a great start. We held our second meeting on Monday, February 12th at St Clare. Moving forward we will meet every two weeks rotating Monday evenings and Saturday morn-ings. Meeting locations will alternate between campuses.
