2. Reduce transport duration

Recital (5) of Regulation (EC) 1/2005 states, that for reasons of animal welfare the transport of animals over long journeys, including animals for slaughter, should be limited as far as possible
EFSA and Federation of Veterinarians of Europe expressed similar views on reducing transport duration
So wasn’t that what we always wanted anyway?
3. Short term solutions: apply strong enforcement, also outside EU
• Enforce full compliance with Court of Justice’s decision as well as OIE slaughtering standards
• Use immediate opportunityof Official Controls Regulation
