1. Introduction
Higher education is a very important part for the growth and development of human
resource which can take responsibility for social, economic and scientific development of
the country. Research productivity in higher education is gaining importance for the past
one decade in India. Research is an art of scientific investigations and an intellectual act
of an endeavor for systematic and scientific search for pertinent information on a specific
topic. Much of human knowledge is produced in the world‘s university departments,
being centres of research, universities and other equivalent institutes are considered as
vital ports for scientific studies and progress of a nation. The research activities of an
institution are reflected through its publications. Advancement in knowledge takes place
through research publications in the form of journal articles, conference papers and
communications among others.
2. Definitional analysis
2.1 Bibliometrics
Bibliometrics is quantitative analysis and statistics to describe patters of publications
within a given field or body of literature. Alan Pritchard in 1969 had coined the term

Bibliometrics. However, the term librametry was coined by Dr. S. R. Ranganathan in
1948 during a discussion at Aslib conference held in Lamington Spa (ASlib Proc. 1949,
p. 102)1.
Pritchard (1969) defines Bibliometrics as the application of mathematical and statistical
methods to books and other media of communication.
2.2 SRTM University Nanded
The Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University was established at Nanded by bi-
furcating the Marathwada University, Aurangabad on 17th September 1994. The
University has been named after Swami Ramanand Teerth the Doyen of the Hyderabad
Liberation Struggle and also a renowned educationalist and social activist. The SRTM
University has made a land mark achievement by securing ‗A‘ grade through evaluation
by National Assessment & Accreditation Council (NAAC) located at Bangalore,
Karnataka in 2015.
2.3 School of Commerce & Management Sciences
School of Commerce & Management Sciences started in year 2007, presently this
particular School offered M.B.A., M.Com, MBA (5 yrs. Integrated BBA+MBA), M.Phil
in (Commerce & Management), and Ph.D in (Commerce & Management) Courses. The
School organizes seminars, workshops and conferences to promote research activities.
The team of highly qualified faculties with huge experiences provides valuable insights
into the dynamic and challenging world of business studies. The faculty is involved in
continuous, relevant and innovative research programmes for betterment of their teaching
techniques. The faculty of this particular school has recognized M.Phil & Ph. D.
Supervisors and has Major & Minor Research Projects to their credits.
3. Review of Literature
Chikate & Waddhwana (2014) analyzed the scientrometric study of 71 research
publications of LIS Professionas of SNDT Women‘s Universit, Mumbai from 2003 to
2012. It covered yearwise, subject wise, gender wise, language wise productivity of
publications, authorship pattern and channels of communication has been studied.
Kandalkar (2014) studied Research performance of Social science faculty members
working in affiliated colleges and department of Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University,
Amravati during 2008-2010. Nagarkar S. (2014) studied the bibliometric analysis of 811
published papers in 258 journals with 8948 citations of 30 faculty members of the
Department of Chemistry at University of Pune during 1999-2012. Kar (Ghosh) and
Mondal (2014) undertook the bibliometric study of 265 research publications of UGC-
DAE Consortium for Scientific Research, Kolkata Centre for the period of 2006-2010.
There were 145 journal publications and the remaining 120 was published proceedings of
Conferences and seminars. Khaparde V S (2011) she studied the pattern of information
use by researcher in the field of library and information science. It is based on the
references appended to International Journal of ―Library Hi Tech‖ during 2005-2009. The
present study is based on 3876 references appended to 247 articles contributed by the
authors in Library Hi Tech. In Authorship pattern it was found that Solo Research is

Predominant than Collaborative Research. The degree of research collaboration was
calculated and it was found that the single authorship trend increased gradually in Library
Hi Tech. Khaparde V S and Pawar (2013) studied the authorship pattern and author‘s
collaborative research in Information Technology with a sample of 17917 articles collect
from LISA during 2000-2009.The average number of authors per article is 1.80. In the
study the degree of collaboration (C) during the overall 10 years (2000-2009) is 0.71, but
the year wise degree of collaboration is almost same in all the years of mean value 0.49.
According to 10 years of period, the multi- authorship articles are higher and predominant
on single authorship. The study found that the researches in Information Technology are
keep toward team research / group research rather than solo research.
Khaparde V S (2013) her paper conducted the Bibliometric Analysis of Research
Publication of
Department of Chemistry, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, from 1975
to 2012. 774research publications were analysed from 144 journals. The study examines
year-wise distribution of papers, authorship pattern, journal in which author publish.
Results revealed that the number of publications was increasing consistently from 1975 to
2012. Out of 774, there are 25% of publications made in 2009, 2010, and 2011. The
majority of the publications are made with 4 authors. And also the majority of the
research paper published in journal of heterocyclic chemistry. Kumar and Dora (2012)
identified the research output during the period 1999-2010 that includes types of
publications, most preferred journals, most prolific authors from IIMA, authorship
pattern, and the journals most cited by the researchers from IIMA. Kumar; Dora and
Desai (2015) undertook the bibliometric analysis of the total 760 research publications
attributed by the authors affiliated to Gujarat University during the year 2004-2013,
similarly Kumbar et.al. (2008) analyzed the growth and impact of research output of
University of Mysore during 1996-2006. Siwach and Kumar (2015) studied the total no.
of 1247 research contributions of Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak during 2000-
2013. Only the journal articles, reviews and articles in press were considered for the
study.

The Degree of collaboration among authors is the ratio of the number of papers published
in a discipline during certain period of time. It is measured mathematically as:
C = NM / (NM + NS)
Where,
C = Degree of collaboration
NM = Number of multi-authored publications
NS = Number of single-authored publications
Here,
C = 46 / 181 = 0.25%
It is found that the degree of author collaboration of publications is calculated and it
varies from 0.14 to 0.34 during the period under study. The Degree of collaboration is
0.25% and the mean value is found to be 0.223. Therefore, the Solo research is quite
remarkably observed by the faculties of Commerce and management sciences. In other
words, multiple authors were dominating.
