BrodenBooks.com Alphabet Writing Practice PagesThese writing practice pages are excerpted from An Ant - Learn to Read, Book 1. They are intended to help you teach the alphabet. Don't worry at all about scribbly handwriting, it does not matter at this early stage. An Ant - Learn to Read recommends teaching the alphabet through sight, sound and touch. The "sound" of the alphabet is taught through singing the ABC song. "Sight" recognition is taught with the included flash cards at the back of the book. "Touch" learning is accomplished through writing the alphabet. Different parts of the brain are involved with sight, sound and touch, and the act of tracing the letters on these pages will help to form a mental concept of each letter. You may wish to begin with A, N, T, S, D and H, as these are the letters in the first 13 stories of the book.
1. Explain that each letter can be written two ways: big and little. Big letters are also called "capital" letters. Small let-ters are also called "lower-case" letters.
2. Say the alphabet together, pointing to each letter at the top of this page as you go.
3. You will need to watch closely and give many reminders to write in a top down direction, as shown by the arrows.
