Transcript Review: You can print an unofficial copy of your student’s transcript at myiusd.org
(parent portal)
Get in the habit of checking the “graduation status” tab to see what high school graduation requirements remain.
Students should check their transcript each semester to make sure it is accurate!
Courses used to meet IUSD graduation requirements must be taken within IUSD (WHS / IUSD summer school / IUSD blended learning).
Courses used to meet college entrance requirements or for personal enrichment can be taken elsewhere (online, community colleges…) at the student/family discretion but the course and grade will not be placed on the WHS transcript.
Woodbridge Warriors
Repeating Classes Review your child’s transcript on Parent Portal
Ds may need to be repeated for college eligibility
Fs may need to be repeated to meet high school graduation requirements
Discuss options for repeating courses with your counselor
Courses for which your child earns a grade of C or better should not be repeated; the higher grade won’t count!

Scheduling News:
9th grade students will be receiving 2018-2019 course selection materials on April 18th.
Counselors will be available outside of the counseling building on April 19, 20, 24, and 25th during lunch to answer 9th grade student scheduling questions.
Counselors will be scheduling all 9th graders individually through their Science courses on May 1st and May 2nd.
Exciting news!!! We’re moving to a block schedule next year!!!
The new schedule increases the number of periods from 6 to 8, and includes block
scheduling on 4 of the 5 days of the week. It is similar to Portola High School’s,
who designed their bell schedule for the school’s opening a year ago. The schedule
is consistent with current research on sleep and student mental health, should
eliminate the need for many of our students to take courses during summer school
or at local community colleges, and will finally allow our students to participate in
athletics, visual and performing arts, co-curricular electives, intervention and
remediation courses without having to compromise their academic plan.

All California high school seniors who fulfill the following three requirements will be entitled to a comprehensive review of their applications at each UC campus to which they apply. They must:
1. Complete 15 UC-required college-preparatory ("a-g") courses, with 11 of those done prior to the start of 12th grade
2. Maintain a GPA of 3.0 or better (weighted by honors/AP bonus points) in these courses
3. Take the ACT With Writing or SAT Reasoning Test
Students' qualifications will be assessed using campus-based review processes,
which emphasize academic achievement but also account for a wide range of
personal accomplishments and educational contexts.
NOTE: Two SAT Subject Tests are no longer required for
admission. However, students can still choose to submit their scores for
consideration as part of their application, just as they do now with AP and IB
scores. The Subject Tests may also be recommended for certain majors.
Woodbridge Warriors
Who receives guaranteed admission
to the University of California (ELC)? Within the pool of applicants, two categories of students will be
guaranteed admission somewhere in the UC system:
1. those who fall in the top 9 percent of all high school graduates statewide
2. those who rank in the top 9 percent of their own high school graduating class – WHS class of 2018 = 4.25 GPA
Because selectivity varies by campus due to the size and academic quality of applicant pools, a student's chance for admission will also vary by campus. For this reason, it is important for students to review all of their options and choose both carefully and broadly.
Students will be notified, directly on the online application, once they enter their academic profile, if they qualify in the top 9%

Paying for Higher Education: Financial Aid
“Financial aid is available to assist students and families in meeting the costs of a college education. If you need help paying for fees, books, and other expenses, you should apply for financial aid. - www.icanaffordcollege.com
Cost of Attendance minus (-) Expected Family Contribution = Financial Need
Information about your family’s financial situation gathered from FAFSA (Free
Application for Federal Student Aid) available in October of 12th grade will be used
to determine your family’s “expected contribution”. Colleges will create packages in
the form of a student aid report (SAR) to include applicable grants/ scholarships, work
study opportunities and loans which can be used to fill the “financial need” gap.
A word of advice from your WHS counselors:

WHS Counselors’ Unsolicited Advice:Include non scheduled time in your child’s day – they really do have a lot on their plates and need some time to relax.
Consider limiting the number of AP classes you allow your child to select. Focus on subject areas where your child has an expressed interest.
Allow your child to try different things (clubs, classes, lessons, and activities). Through this exploration, they may find their college major, a career option, or at least some new friends.
Monitor grades through parent portal weekly. Checking daily may make both you and your child a little crazy. Remember, only the final semester grade “counts”.
As hard as it may be sometimes…just listen. Allow natural consequences to teach.
