1.0 120 - 230/240VAC Fans (pn 1175-9009SP and 1175-9010SP)

1.1 Description

The 120VAC fans (pn 1175-9009SP) and 230/240VAC fans (pn 1175-9010SP) are used to lower the sign’s internal temperature by circulating air in the sign. These fans are used in the AlphaEclipse RoadStar sign and the AlphaEclipse StreetSmart sign.

There are no fan intakes or exhaust outlets in a sign.

1.2 Sign identification

These fans are used in both the AlphaEclipse RoadStar signs and the AlphaEclipse StreetSmart signs.

• The AlphaEclipse RoadStar signs have large louvers (see below). If you have an AlphaEclipse RoadStar sign see “AlphaEclipse RoadStar sign installation instructions” on page 3.

• The AlphaEclipse StreetSmart signs have small louvers (see above). If you have an AlphaEclipse StreetSmart sign see “AlphaEclipse StreetSmart sign installation instructions” on page 5.

Prevent electrostatic discharge (ESD) or “static” damage to the replacement part.

• For safe handling of ESD-sensitive parts, see TechMemo #00-0005.

Remove power from the sign.

NOTE: All power switches must be in the off position to remove power from the sign. On a two or more-line sign, lines one, three and five have power switches that must be turned off prior to servicing.

To access the fan, open the 8x8 (or 8x7) sign door in front of the fan:

• Locate the two door locks (circled) on the sign door in front of the fan (usually the left sign door):

• Use a 5/32-inch hex tool to open each door lock.

• Carefully pull the door back.

Disconnect the fan power cable.

Remove the fan from the fan bracket.

Install the replacement fan.

Close the sign door.

Apply power to the sign.

• Cut and remove the four fan tie wraps from the fan bracket.• Remove the two fan screws from the fan bracket.• Lift the fan out of the fan bracket.

• Place the replacement fan in the fan bracket.• Attach the two screws from step 5 to the fan bracket and replacement fan.• Attach four tie wraps in the remaining four holes in the fan bracket.• Reattach the fan power cable to the cube’s power supply.
