Enjoy the concert, wander the grounds, and when you come to the next concert, come a little early and explore our down-town, our neighborhoods, our restaurants and our shops. I think you’ll be amazed by what you experience – almost as much as by what you hear tonight!

Welcome!

Other than lemonade, is there anything that says “summer” more than hearing a band play outside on a warm Sunday evening? In Racine we are lucky, and proud, to showcase the talented Racine Concert Band throughout the summer at the spectacular setting of the stage in Racine Zoological Gardens with Lake Michigan as the backdrop.

As the sailboats drift by, the moon rises, and the music of summer washes over you, I want

For the twenty-eighth consecutive year, ACE HEATING & COOLING, INC., 1238 N. MAIN STREET, is sponsoring the great American Flag give-away at our concerts. The Racine Concert Band gratefully acknowledges David Linden and his associates for their generosity in adding this patriotic feature to our concerts.

Mark Eichner was named the Music Director and Conductor of the Racine Concert Band in 2002, becoming only the fifth conductor in the 96 year history of the band. He retired in 2014, after 32 years as Conductor of the UW-Parkside Wind Ensemble and trumpet instructor at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. In 1990, he founded the UW-Parkside Community Band. He was selected for a University of Wisconsin Regents’ Award for Teaching Excellence in 1993.

He has performed in the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, the Florentine Opera, the Wisconsin Philharmonic Orchestra, Present Music, the Bel Canto Chorus and Orchestra, the Woodstock Mozart Festival, the Skylight Opera, the Milwaukee Bach Society, the Chicagoland Pops Orchestra, the Brass Band of Battle Creek, Music by the Lake, and the Racine, Kenosha, and Waukegan Symphony Orchestras. His quintet, BrassWorks, has performed a nationally broadcast performance at the Chicago Cultural Center, and has assisted the Canadian Brass in Wisconsin concerts.

Prior to his appointment at UW-Parkside, Professor Eichner taught at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma and in the Austin, Texas public schools. He earned his bachelor and master of music degrees at the University of Texas. He pursued advanced studies with Richard Metzger, Principal Trumpet of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, and in conducting with Robert Reynolds of the University of Michigan.

Program cover artist – A poet and painter, Jerry Belland is a long-time fixture of the southeast Wisconsin arts community. He has authored three picture books, available at Amazon.com.
