Directions: Read and do the activity below.

1. Make a plan that will safely achieve the tasks below.

Task 1: Opening a Computer Case

Task 2: Cleaning a Computer keyboard

2. All students whose family names start with a vowel letter will

stick on task 1, while those students whose family names start

with consonant letter will focus on task 2.

3. Then, based on the task assigned, make a table using the

format below. Make a plan on how are you going to perform the

task and identify the possible impacts it can give to you and to

What is It

A tool is a handheld device that aids in accomplishing a task.

Tools ranges from traditional metal cutting part of a machine to an

element of a computer program that activates and controls a particular

function.

How to prepare task when using hand tools?

The following are the things to be considered when preparing a

task when using Hand tools.

1. How do you select the first tool to for the job?

• First, know and understand in detail the scope of work to be

accomplished.

• Second, plan for the scope taking into account the sequence of

tasks.

Page 7: 9/11 Z P Z P

7

2. Select the best tool for each task requires training use of tools,

experience in safe use and following manufacturer’s guidance and

instructions for a particular tool.

3. When obtaining the tool, all the associated tooling and consumable

parts, as recommended by the manufacturer, must be included. In

addition, related consumable parts must also be selected and in

accordance to manufacturer’s instruction.

So before touching on the job, you have to be familiar and very well

oriented on the task that you are about to do. Do not start your job

without understanding the task completely. Then whatever instruction is

being stated in the manufacture’s manual regarding the use of the tool,

you need have to follow it not just to achieve the goal but most

importantly for your safety.

Hand Tools

A hand tool is a device for performing work on a material or a

physical system using only hands. The hand tools can be manually

used employing force, or electrically powered, using electrical current.

Examples of Hand Tools:

Flat head screwdriver – used to loosen or tighten

slotted screws.

Philips head screwdriver – used to loosen or tighten cross-head screws.

Torx screwdriver - used to loosen or tighten screws

that have a star-like depression on the top, a feature

that is mainly found on laptop.

Page 8: 9/11 Z P Z P

8

Hex driver – sometimes called a nut driver, is used to

tighten nuts in the same way that a screwdriver

tightens screws.

Needle-nose plier – used to hold small parts.

Wire cutter – used to strip and cut wires.

Tweezers – used to manipulate small parts.

Part retriever – used to retrieve parts from location that are too small for your hand to fit.

Flashlight – used to light up areas that you cannot see

well.

Page 9: 9/11 Z P Z P

9

Crimper – is a devise used to conjoin two pieces of metal

by deforming one or both of them in a way that causes

them to hold each other.

Network cables and phone cables are created using a

crimping tool (shown below) to join the RJ-45 and RJ-

11 connectors to both ends of either phone or Cat

5 cable.(computerhope.com)

ACTIVITY 4

Directions: Make a plan on the preparation for cleaning computer

system unit inner part. The plan should be in order. Number 1 should

contain the first step of your plan, and then followed by 2nd step and so

on and so forth. There will be no minimum number of steps as long as

your plan will be complete and in detailed.

ACTIVITY 5

Directions: Rank the steps below on how to prepare task. Rank 1 as the

first step and 5 as the last.

______ Read and follow the manufacturer’s manual for instruction and guidance on how to use the tool.

______ Get oriented on what to do.

______ Choose the best tool and equipment to be used in doing the task.

______ Prepare for the things needed to accomplish the task.

______ If unsure on how to use the tool, refer to user’s manual.

ACTIVITY 6

ACTIVITY 7

Directions: Fill in the blanks with the corresponding correct word to

complete the paragraph.

In using hand tools, it is essential to know and be oriented with

ways and means of planning and preparing a task. Using hand tools if

not planned and prepared may lead to unwanted results. In order to

avoid those things to happen, a set of things to be considered when

preparing a task when using Hand tools need to be observed. These

include the proper (1) _________ of the tool for the task, the (2) _________

driver is used to tighten (9) ________. Needle nose plier,

(10) ____________ and part retriever are used to hold and manipulate

small parts which is impossible for a human man to hold. Also, crimper

and flashlight are considered as hand tool.

What I Can Do

ACTIVITY 8

Directions: Read the scenario below and do the task.

Scenario: Your system CPU fan makes a noise when the computer is

turned on. And you wanted to open the case to check what it is. How will

you do it?

Task: Think of one possible solution to the problem and make a plan on

how you are going to solve the issue in a table form. Number 1 should

contain the first step of your plan, and then followed by the 2nd step,

and so on and so forth. You can write as many as you can.
