Within the next several News Notes, we will be spotlighting our new teachers so that you can getto know them better. Our teachers come from different backgrounds and are highly qualified fortheir positions at SME. It is our hope that you will find them as a wonderful addition to our schoolfamily, as we already do! Together, we will create a year of excellence for our children as wefocus on improving student and family engagement, and are determined to deliver excellentinstruction, as we create a school where safety, respect, accountability, support and excellence

are highly evident!

We will continue to focus on making our vision and mission the core of our daily work with chil-dren, teachers and parents. With today’s new standards we claim we are creating a culture ofcollege readiness and this is the year we will build shared understandings about what thismeans and ways parents and teachers can work together to ensure that every SME student is

college ready.

Meet the Teacher Night InformationThank you to all of the parents that have taken the time to come to our ‘Meet the TeacherNights’. We will be holding our final session tomorrow, September 24th from 6:30-8:00pm for the parents of our Middle School students in grades 6-8. All parents are encour-aged to attend. These evenings are for parents only as it is the first opportunity for theteachers to fill you in on what goes on in their classrooms and answer any general ques-tions parents may have. Please remember that: 1) The teachers have many families tospeak with in a short amount of time, and 2) With so many people present there is a lackof privacy. Therefore, if you have specific questions regarding your student, please emailthe teacher to set up a time to speak or chat with them at a later date. We appreciate youunderstanding on this matter.

Catholic Schools MarathonPledge sheets are coming home today! The Catholic Schools Marathon will be held

on Monday October 5th. The students will walk around the school grounds with their respec-

tive class while raising money for their school. As always, we ask that children collect pledg-

es from family and friends. We encourage all students to participate. The pledge form is also

used as your student’s permission slip to walk with their class. Students

are to wear their gym uniforms. This is a rain or shine event, so please

dress your child in weather appropriate attire. If your student has an SME

hoodie please encourage them to wear it if needed.

Virtus

Teacher Spot LightMy name is Mr. Bloom. I am originally from Rochester, NY and came to Buffalo

for college and attended UB for my Bachelor’s Degree in mathematics and

Canisius for my Masters Degree in education. I am in my first full year of teach-

ing and I teach AIS Mathematics. I have enjoyed every moment at SME thus far

due largely to the wonderful faculty and staff who I get to work with each day. I

absolutely love mathematics, but when I am not teaching I enjoy spending time

with my wife and puppy, doing crossword puzzles, and running.

Gym Uniforms

All gym orders have been filled as of 9/18. With the rush of a new school year much of our inventory has been de-pleted. If your order is marked with a note that reads ‘NEED’, that item will be sent home as soon as our shipmentarrives. Going forward we will fill orders biweekly. We have an extensive supply of adult sizes; what an easy way toshow your support of SME!Our uniform exchange tables will be available throughout our “Meet the Teacher Nights” on the gym stage. Pleasetake a look at what is available. After this time it will be put away until the Spring.

Volunteering, Field Trip Chaperones, and Virtus

Please remember that in order to help in the classroom, chaperone a field trip,lunch monitor or participate in any other event that involves contact with the ourstudents, you MUST attend a Virtus training session, submit a Code of Conductform and a Uniform Volunteer Questionnaire. SME drama club would like to announce that we will be performing "Disney's The Lion King Jr." this year. Thedates of the musical will be April 7th, 8th and 9th.

Sign up sheets will be available in the office on Monday, October 5th-Friday, October 16th. Chorus for Grades3 & 4, ensemble for grade 5, speaking parts grades 6-8 and crew for grades 6-8.

There will be a mandatory parent meeting on Wednesday, October 21 at 6:30.

Planning for Our Autumn Gold Extravaganza is under way! We will again be hosting this fabulous event right here at school!We received a lot of feedback after last years event and are working hard to adjust what we can to make this event betterand better every year. Nurse Notes

School VisitorsPlease keep in mind that ALL visitors must go to the office and sign in before proceeding into the building. Thisincludes parents as well. Parents may walk their students to the front foyer and say their goodbyes in the morning.If you would like to speak with a teacher, please send them an email or leave a voicemail and they will respond assoon as they have a free period. It is important that we know who is in the building not only for your student’ssafety, but in the case of an emergency. The exception is if you are picking your student up from FAST club orattending an evening event. Thank you for your cooperation.

As we all return to school we need to be more cognizant of hand washing. Proper hand washing with soap andwater several times a day will help students lessen the chance of coming down

with a cold/virus. If you have not done so already, please make sure we have a

Music Lessons Available

Miss Stringer, SME's music teacher has a limited amount of space available toprovide music lessons to our students at $15.00 per half hour. Lessons areavailable on Monday's and Friday's and before or after school during the schoolweek. This week is the final week where a hard copy of the NewsNote will be coming home in your Blue Folder. If youare interested in continuing to receive a hard copy please email Mrs. Frank at [email protected] next week an email will go out to every family with a link to view the weekly NewsNote as well as allflyers that are going home.

Applications and information regarding the Free and Reduced Lunch Program are available at any time in the mainoffice and on our website as well as with this week’s blue folder. This application can be submitted at any time duringthe school year should a change arise, in a sealed envelope to our kitchen manager. ChocolateLife is Sweet!! Chocolate is flying out the door and we couldn’t be more excited! Way to Go!!! Last year we

were able to raise over $25,000. Let’s see how far we can exceed that this year!

We have one weekend available to sell candy bars after mass; October 3rd & 4th. If you are interested in sellingafter any of our 5 mass times please email [email protected] with your two preferred masstimes. We will fill available spots on a first come first serve basis. If selected, you will be notified of your assignedtime by phone. You will be responsible for providing your own table, cash box and chocolate. Students must be ac-companied by an adult while selling and wear SME logo attire.
