Monday: Cub Pilot on the Mississippi

Sister Amina’s lesson on Cub Pilot on the Mississippi

Pre-reading activity: Let’s talk about you! Write five sentences that tell how you might react to

being bullied or unfairly criticized. Use three out of these five vocabulary words: agitate, protest, and confront.

Then we will do pair share once you are done and go over vocab.

• During Reading: Make predictions and start reading story.

• Post Reading: Create story map.

Tuesday: How to…8A: Testing. If you miss this day, make sure to see someone in

the office for a retake.8B: Teach the class!

20 minutes: In groups, come up with a 5 minute lesson & skit involving your assigned topics.

The skit can involve a conflict, but make sure it’s clear in the end how the conflict can be resolved.

You will be graded on professionalism, creativity, preparedness, visual aid(s) and involvement of everyone in the group & staying on task.

When do I use a semicolon?Use a semicolon when you want to form a

bond between two statements that are related.Ex: It was below zero on a cold winter day;

Squiggly wondered if he would freeze to death. Don’t use a semicolon with coordinating

conjunctions (and, or, but). Use a comma in this case.Ex: It was 10 below zero on a cold winter day,

and Squiggly wondered if he would freeze to death.

When do I use a semicolon?Use it as a SUPER comma!

Ex: This week's book winners are Herbie in Milligan College, Tennessee; Matt in Irvine, California; and Jan in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Because each item in the list requires a comma to separate the city from the state, you have to use a semicolon to separate the items themselves.
