Texas Bhangra, Thomas Gu, Zachary Caballero, Hum A Cappella, the Valliere Brothers, UT Nach Baliye, S.o.L, Eric and Olivia, and Rachell Wong competed in an American Idol style showdown, with Redefined Dance Co. and Free Flow being the exhibition acts. The audience had an assortment of reactions towards the performers throughout the show. The strongest reaction was towards two performances: Eric and Olivia, who performed a blues duet to “Ain’t No Sunshine” and a rendition of “My Favorite Things” from the Sound of Music, as well as Texas Bhangra’s dance performance. Dancer Noman Ahmad, a junior economics major, performed with the Refined Dance Co. in Texas Revue. He said he was thrilled with their Superhero-Villian themed performance and the whole outcome of the show. “The audience seemed to really like the routine since it did speak to the mass generation,” Ahmed said. “A lot of things we did either gave them fond memories of their childhood, like Mortal Kombat, and others were just crowd pleasers.” Ronak Shah, a junior biology major, performed with the musically talented singing group Hum Acapella. “The audience was simply wonderful,” Shah said. “A few folks spelled out HUM with all of the glowsticks, and seeing that instilled in us an extra burst of energy. The crowd’s enthusiasm makes performing worth it, which was clearly evident at Texas Revue.” Eric and Olivia won first place for their blues duet performance, while Rachell Wong pulled off second place with her violin skills. The whole show was a success for everyone, however. “Overall, we were very pleased with our performance,” Ahmad said. “There were a few mistakes here and there, but when are there not in a performance? It comes down to the fact that we love to dance and to get the opportunity to perform at Bass Concert Hall and partake in Texas Revue means so much to us. We had the times of our lives on that stage.” story by Akshata Stephen TEXAS has TALENT Watching the game tick away, sophomore quarterback Garrett Gilbert screws up again. UT students have talent, and lots of it. This year, the “cream of the crop” performed on the Texas Union Ballroom stage in front of thousands at the Texas Revue on April 17.

“A lot of things we did either gave them fond memories of their childhood, like Mortal Kombat, and others were just crowd pleasers.”
