Modernization…
Key Challenges – As we know
Business experience shows that sub-optimal use of maximum train capacity can be due to technical
parameters but also to poor operational capacity management.”
“The continued growth in demand for freight services due to the increased amount of manufacturing in
developing regions will be a key growth driver for the industry moving forward.” – Datamonitor
•“We are unable to manage our users across all of our applications, databases, and systems and our
auditors require that we have comprehensive tracking of our user lifecycle. We have many databases
and DBAs. It is impossible to manage their accounts effectively across our enterprise.”

Dependency on Legacy Systems
Critical business processes (reservations, operations, cargo operations) depend on legacy systems that are hard to modify, costly to maintain, and run on aging expensive hardware
Complex Application Environments
Years of custom development and decentralized solutions have led to complex application environments with multiple data sources, complex integrations, and several point solutions with poor documentation and support
Ageing Fragile Infrastructure
Strong focus on costs and low investments have left railways with aging server, PC, and network
infrastructure making it difficult to support 24*7 operations across multiple continents
Shrinking IT Budgets
Shrinking IT budgets leave little room for new investments in platforms although need to replace and improve their aging applications and IT infrastructure
Technical Challenges – As we know

Scope of Work
Design and implement a state of the art new FEAP system.
Introduce Open Standards compliant J2EE Web based User Interface.
Identify Web Services to be accessible by internal and external users subject to authentication and access privileges.
Introduce SOA, transforming existing COBOL applications into WEB Services.
Recommend the ideal RDBMS for the final centralized system.
The new FEAP should be the core of all services and eliminate any duplication of services between COBOL FEAP and non-COBOL systems like Portal.
Implement RDBMS system replacing existing COBOL files for efficient data storage and retrieval.
Implement the above tiers maintaining the independence of each tier from the other.
Develop data migration strategy and required software and implement the same for replacing COBOL files by RDBMS.
Enable FEAP to generate report (online / bulk) and have user-interface in Indian Languages
Identify the area in the applications where interfaces are to be introduced for work flow implementation.
New FEAP should have seamless integration with Non-COBOL systems like CADW and Portal, maintaining the independence of such systems.
For messaging between a processing center and the ODS or CADW the usage of TIBCO will continue.
Assist the Corporation in finalizing the Roll out strategy and its Implementation.
Implement the modernized system in selected pilot 10 branches, 10 divisional centers and corresponding DRS center.
Assist in setting up a Central Control Center for administering all the divisional and DRS centers.
